So much of the story was unnecessary and irrelevant to what eventually led to what you could call the main storyline - pure filler, never to be mentioned again. Won't put myself through that again.

Storyline really tanked. A lot of trying to prove how well they all get along, with some occasional action. Magnus stating how proud he was of having such a "diverse" team should give an idea of the trajectory. A LOT of spent on the little girl Piper and her mental health. Not what I had come to expect, so this book is the end of the road for me regarding this series - and author.

So why are they on such high alert? Court's high stakes hunt for answers takes him across Southeast Asia and leads to his old friend, Donald Fitzroy, who is being held hostage by the Chinese.

Absurd

The entire book takes place throughout southeast Asia, but it is obvious the author has never been there - just name dropped cities and locations he found on Google maps. Just one example: he doesn't know what side of the road they drive on. The story is just one absurdity after another.

The Galactics arrived with their Battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spans the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder. In 2122 a lost colony expedition contacts Earth, surprising our government. Colonization is against Galactic Law, and Legion Varus is dispatched to the system to handle the situation. Earth gave them sealed orders, but Earth is 35 lightyears away.

There are people mining Mars. But apparently they are just a bunch of exclusively Irish people who moved there to set up a bunch a bickering clans. So basically it is about the drama the make for themselves. Just awful, unless you are an Irish clansperson I would guess.

SPOILER ALERT: I didn't start this series because I wanted to listen to the challenges of dealing with an orphan teenage girl. 'You're just a kid, you don't know.' 'I am not, I'll show you!' 'Wow, I was so wrong, I shouldn't have judged so quickly. I am an adult man, you are a teenage girl, who would have thought we'd be so different? But I still feel an obligation to protect you.' Rinse and repeat for however many hours this book was.

On a little-known planet, Archmage Varic Vallenar casts a grand spell to empower himself with the magical abilities of his alternate selves. The ritual works too well, granting Varic not only the magic but also the memories from six lives. Including their gruesome deaths. Now, Varic has power greater than any wizard in galactic history, but he knows that won’t be enough. The enemies he faced in those alternate lives were apocalyptic in scale. Terrors of technology and magic. Nothing that he, or anyone, can defeat.

I liked it, but not sure I liked it enough to buy the next one. Adding magic to space sci-fi works ok, but it seems just too easy of a solution when facing a challenge - always having just the spell(s) to save the day...

Great info, but...
Reviewed: 07-20-23
A lot of great info, but he repeatedly refers to the free online companion course that provides supplemental and additional materials - that online course and the materials no longer exist. The website is there and will still collect your info, but you will not get access to any of the materials.
The Audible.com description still says (as of 7/20/23): "Also included is the Lifetime Cashflow book online companion course that includes, videos, scripts, templates, contracts, and checklists." But again, this is NOT true. Disappointing, because it sounded like there were some really helpful materials there. The audiobook date is 2021, so one would believe the online material descriptions would be accurate - and it is a bit deceiving by the author to keep the website up collecting info, then reneging on providing the materials.
But other than that, there is a lot of other good info in the book and he did a good job reading it (though you could often tell he was reading as if it were a script prepared by his assistants).

Talking to a child
Reviewed: 07-07-23
Good info but two big cons:
1) OLD examples. A main property described in an example describing the great investing opportunities in Portland...months after 9/11.
2) The writing and the reader make it sound like they are talking to a child. However, makes one think that if someone who needs to be talked to like that can make it in real estate, then anyone should be able to.
