Alex Sand was spending the evening at home playing basketball with his two young sons when all three were shot in cold blood. A wealthy federal judge, there’s no short list of people who could have a vendetta against Sands, but the gruesome murders, especially that of his children, turn their St. Paul community on its head. Sand was on the verge of a major donation to a local housing charity, Heart/Twin Cities, and with the money in limbo, eyes suddenly turn to his grieving widow, Margaret Cooper, to see what she might do with the money.

Loved Judgement Prey. I it is great to see Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers working together to solve a case. It was too bad that Maggie could not get help after her family was slaughtered.

What would cause the Amish to move to Colorado, leaving family and friends behind? Some Amish are making the trek for cheaper land. Others are fleeing strict bishops with long memories. For Emily Detweiler and her family, the move is more personal. Tragedy struck Emily in Ohio, shaking loose everything she believed was firm, including her faith. Her family took the bold step of leaving Ohio to resettle in a small Amish community in Canaan, Colorado, where they hope the distance will help erase painful memories.

Story
In the silent pre-dawn city hours - alone with his thoughts about Rina Lazarus, the woman he loves, 3,000 miles away in New York - L.A.P.D. detective Peter Decker finds a small child, abandoned and covered in blood that is not his. It is a sobering discovery, and a perplexing one, for nobody in the development where she was found steps forward to claim the little girl. Obsessed more deeply by this case than he imagined possible, Decker is determined to follow the scant clues to an answer.

Peter Decker of the L.A.P.D. never dreamed he'd be spending his honeymoon with his new wife, Rina Lazarus, in an Orthodox Jewish enclave in Brooklyn, New York or that a terrible event would end it so abruptly. But a boy has vanished from the midst of this close-knit religious community, a troubled youth fleeing the tight bonds and strictures he felt were strangling him. Great ending!
Reviewed: 12-11-16
Faye Kellerman does a super job of fleshing out her characters. Both the job "family" as well as the home family. They all travel seamlessly between books and storylines.
The Jewish community and history easily fits in as part of the storylines. Each book builds upon the last but can stand alone. The problem with a standalone concept is the need to see what happens next. They are all that good!

Stephen Cannell has brought the same expertise to this series about Shane Scully as.he did to the "A Team"! Every books just builds in suspense as the stories are told. The books in this series can stand alone, but they are so much more impressive when listened to in order. The characters build in complexity. The story line are believable. What a great adventure!

After the events in Gathering Prey, Lucas Davenport finds himself in a very unusual situation - no longer employed by the Minnesota BCA. His friend, the governor, is just cranking up a presidential campaign, though, and he invites Lucas to come along as part of his campaign staff. "Should be fun!" he says, and it kind of is - until they find they have a shadow: an armed man intent on killing the governor...and anyone who gets in the way.

A great read! John Sandford has always used Richard Ferrone to narrate the "Prey" novels. Excellent choice.
