Story
Tembreabrezi is like Eden - a beginning place. There, Hugh and Irena assume they have merely discovered an escape from the dull monotony, even the terrors of their regular lives. But Tembreabrezi has a secret, a dark fear that is threatening the very life-blood of the kingdom. Hugh and Irena were led there for a purpose, selected for an impossibly hopeless mission. If they accept the challenge, they may lose everything - their new-found paradise, and possibly their lives.

It's a fantasy "coming of age" and "working through a traumatic past" style story. Not bad, but a bit awkward at times. Excellent narration.

Silly Space Adventure

It was definitely entertaining. Not sure of the target age range (likely 14-20?), but I enjoyed it at 35. This book seems to contain no cuss words, just slang mathematical terms. Only downside in my opinion was the lack of any real physics or supportable science behind their futuristic themes. Just the magical "gravitons" and the science of "it just works". Still, if you can accept this, it's a fun read/listen.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron’s evil dominion. Thus begins J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, which continues in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

Excellent books and excellent narration
Reviewed: 01-26-24
Andy Serkis did an excellent job with his narration, especially concerning his version of Gollum and all of the songs sung through the books. Granted, I still prefer the version narrated by Rob Inglis because it feels more light hearted and is also an excellent narration, but I would recommend this to anyone interested in lord of the rings, fantasy, or even history buffs that may want something less serious for a change.

He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Excellent Book

Thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. my only complaint is the occasional extremely deep voice used for the Baron Harkonnen. It threw me off a little. If they used that same deep voice for him every time I would have enjoyed it more, I think.

Story
Benedict Sorellin-Lancaster hasn't even broken in his lieutenant's insignia when he's summoned to meet with the Spirearch of Spire Albion himself for a very special—and very secret—purpose. The Spirearch needs Benedict to retrieve a bag he's "misplaced" on the Colony Spire known as Dependence, which has strangely cut off all contact with the outside world. It's a delicate mission at best, a potential bloodbath at worst. To this end, the Spirearch has supplied Benedict with backup in the form of three Warriorborn.

Rincewind, inept wizard and reluctant hero, has found himself magically stranded on the Discworld's last continent. It's hot. It's dry. There was this thing once called The Wet, which no one believes in any more. Practically everything that's not poisonous is venomous. But it's the best bloody place in the world, all right? And in a few days, it will die. The only thing standing between the last continent and wind-blown doom is Rincewind, and he can't even spell wizard. Still...no worries, eh?

I'm not the absolute biggest fan of the voices he uses for some of the wizards (like Ridcully), but to each their own. It was still an excellent performance. Will listen to it again.

In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself.

Great Story
Reviewed: 04-19-23
In my opinion, the writer used his own experience very well in this book. The cadence of this story surrounding "Alex Supertramp" seemed to follow the author's climb of the devil's thumb rather well. (It's been a while since I've been backpacking, and this is definitely giving me the itch, though they can keep their thrill-seeking for themselves. I'm happy just hiking my equipment 20 miles into a national park, hiking some more nearby, enjoying the food I bring, and leaving with everything I brought.) In the end, whether Chris McCandless was foolhardy or just unlucky in his final experience, I can't quite say based on this story alone. I do recommend this read.

Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself.

Good book and decent performance. Mr. Bernstein seems to have (or use) a young voice, and oftentimes, it was a bit hard to get through. Written for a younger audience, I would recommend this for 6-8th grade listening.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Great Reading of a Classic
Reviewed: 09-27-21
All of it was great other than the woman, when reading the old sailor's bits. Between the accent and sentence structure it seemed confusing and grated on me. There isn't too terribly much of it and it's all relatively early on so it makes little impact on the story and narration. Overall very well done and I would listen to this version again next time I'm in the mood for Dracula.
