Story felt slow

I usually like detective-type stories, but this one fell a bit flat. The narrator was fine, but the story didn’t seem to have a typical build up to an exciting climax.

Story
As a single, unemployed, and unapologetic twenty-five-year-old mess, I came to the Hamptons this summer for one reason—to focus on myself and work out my quarter-life crisis. I didn't come here planning to sneak into a private party and meet a handsome stranger. I definitely didn't come here expecting that stranger to be Preston Rhodes—billionaire and superstar quarterback for the Manhattan Mambas. And that's not even the crazy part. He asked me to be his pretend girlfriend for a week while his family was in town.

The story was boring
Reviewed: 11-03-24
There was very little mystery, no build up and I hated all of the background noise that is there to make it sound like the story is actually happening. Car doors closing, scuffles during a fight, car engines, … all of it was just unnecessary and distracting. I’m sure glad it was free!

I hate the books where the characters are talking the whole time and there are sound effects to make it sound like you are listening in on them. The story is decent, but a little too twisty without enough story to sustain my interest or make it at all likely.

Story
The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Story
It all started with an unexpected phone call. Two years after my fiancé passed away in an accident, his father died suddenly, leaving Brad’s adult special-needs brother with no one to care for him. The next thing I knew, I was on a cross-country drive to New Hampshire where I’d be moving in to look after Scottie until I could get him into a group home. The last thing I ever expected? I wouldn’t be taking care of him alone.

Charm is the key to the world. Charisma, magnetism, sex appeal - that "it" factor that can't be described. Nolan Delaney has it is spades. The infamous Mr. Romantic. And maybe he is out of my league, but I'm going to give it the old college try anyway. Because I didn't travel 2,000 miles for a job interview at his request just to be put out like trash. Don't underestimate me, Mr. Delaney. I'm really not as innocent as I look.

The story was good until the very long and drawn out “fantasy rape” scene. I finished the book, but that whole section completely ruined it for me. It’s still bugging me days later. Not recommended.
