Historia
Dry, sarcastic, 16-year-old Cam Cooper has spent the last seven years in and out hospitals. The last thing she wants to do in the short life she has left is move 1,500 miles away to Promise, Maine - a place known for the miraculous events that occur there. But it's undeniable that strange things happen in Promise: everlasting sunsets; purple dandelions; flamingoes in the frigid Atlantic; an elusive boy named Asher; and finally, a mysterious envelope containing a list of things for Cam to do before she dies.

A wonderfully written book on the insight of a teenager with a terminal disease and her family around her. Nice coming of age, with tears.

Ehh!

This was the book I read from Tik Tok this year and I was hoping for so much more. As I read this it felt like Disney and Marvel got together and decided to hire Greta Thunberg, Stephanie Meyer, and Kiera Cass as writers to make a story. This is not meant as an insult. They each have their own talents. In fact I actually love Kiera Cass! But I digress. The book just felt over written and had no originality. All that being said when I was a teenager I would have loved this book. Not sure if the story gets better in the other books but I am not reading any more of them after reading this one.

Historia
Dannie Kohan lives her life by the numbers. She is nothing like her lifelong best friend - the wild, whimsical, believes-in-fate Bella. Her meticulous planning seems to have paid off after she nails the most important job interview of her career and accepts her boyfriend’s marriage proposal in one fell swoop, falling asleep completely content. But when she awakens, she’s suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man.

I cannot remember who suggested this book to me but all I can say is thank you. It is so well written and constructed to be relatable in so many ways. Your heart will yearn for the characters. Their lives become an investment, as you read, that you never knew you needed. Yes, there is some predictability but it never makes the book stale.
My heart flowed with each character, guided by the words of the author. And I will never be the say as I was before “In Five Years.”
