What a surprise!
Reviewed: 02-13-24
I read and listen to a lot of police procedurals and murder mysteries, but I get tired of them after so many. The premise of this story looked different, and piqued my interest, so I thought I would try it. At first, it was hard for me to get used to the structure, but once the story got going, I had to make myself stop listening. It is an amazing novel. And you won't believe how many surprises there are, right up to the very end! I highly recommend. Enjoy!

Story
A pool boy enters a secluded Bel Air property and discovers two bodies floating in the bright blue water: Gio Aggiunta, the playboy heir to an Italian shoe empire, and a gorgeous, even wealthier neighbor named Meagin March. A married neighbor. An illicit affair stoking rage is a perfect motive. But a “double” in this neighborhood of gated estates isn’t something you see every day. The house is untouched. No forced entry, no forensic evidence. The case has “that feeling,” and when that happens, Milo turns to his friend, the brilliant psychologist Alex Delaware.

Good Alex and Milo
Reviewed: 02-11-24
This is a really good police procedural. There are two stories goung on, one for Milo and Alex, another for Alex, only, but touches on what is going on in the murder case. About midway in, i got busy and didn 't listen for about 4 days. When i got back to it, I was lost. It would be better if you could listen to it more consistently tha I did.
Otherwise, it was the top-notch story with John Rubenstein's outstanding narration.

Story
She's just watching, thinking about it again, when a big flash car pulls up outside. No one gets out. Then the doors of the bar open and people appear. Two men and a youngish woman, and one of the men has a hold on the woman's arm. It looks as if they're having words. Then this all happens quickly—they push the woman towards the car, one of the back doors opens, and they manhandle her inside. Sarah hears a muffled shout from the woman and the car pulls away. It's all over in a few seconds.

Story
In Eyes of Prey, Bekker, an insane pathologist who experiments with his patients’ pain thresholds, is finally brought down by an unrelenting Lucas Davenport, who brutally maims the doctor’s beautiful face but leaves him alive. “You should have killed me,” were Bekker’s parting and prophetic words.
In this sequel to Eyes of Prey, Bekker endures the indignities and horrors of imprisonment, taking comfort in the fact that it is only a matter of time before he will make Lucas Davenport pay.

Story
Sharply observant and wickedly funny, E.F. Benson's six Mapp and Lucia novels satirize the upper-middle-class social climbers in 1920s and '30s rural England. Games of bridge and cups of tea fuel hilarious gossip and vindictive plots a-plenty. It is a masterfully sustained spotlight on the minutiae of village life - a clever and ultimately heartwarming series that seems tailor-made for audio. This second volume contains the second three books.

If you have never read E F. Benson, this is an interesting and amusing way to start. His stories about British manners in the form of Mapp and Lucia are dripping with his delicious satire. I started reading them in the 90's and couldn't get enough. Once you start you will want to read and listen to them all. Georgina Sutton's narration is spot on. Enjoy!!!

This is one of the dumbest novels I have ever read. The narrator is good, but the story is so bizzare, that it is hard to give her the credit she deserves. I cannot recommend, other than to avoid this junk
