Story
William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

Slow moving
Reviewed: 03-07-24
This story just didn't keep me engaged. while listening I often caught my mind wandering and not listening. It was, quite frankly, boring. I did finish, and am glad I did because the last 30 minutes were the best of the whole book. I feel the reader contributed to it being lackluster as she was monotone much of the time. There was no character that went with any of them. All voices were the same flat tone the entire book.

Story
It is a perfect July morning, and Elle, a 50-year-old happily married mother of three, awakens at “The Paper Palace” - the family summer place she has visited every summer of her life. But this morning is different: Last night, Elle and her oldest friend, Jonas, crept out the back door into the darkness and had sex with each other for the first time, all while their spouses chatted away inside. Now, Elle will have to decide between the life she has made with her genuinely beloved husband and the life she always imagined she would have had with her childhood love.

I could not figure out what their story was even about. I can suspend disbelief to get to the root of heat the author is trying to get at, but the narrative just aimlessly wandered with no apparent focus.

As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

At points, it was so descriptive that I had a hard time continuing, but there was no way I could stop it either. The darker side of this world is sometimes hard to see, but it is always there.

Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.
