Story
When Sasha receives a call from her old university friend Gabby inviting her to spend Christmas at Gabby’s remote Scottish lake house, Sasha knows she shouldn’t go. Twelve years ago, on Christmas Eve, when Sasha and her five closest friends were celebrating the festive season, something truly horrific happened that would change the course of their friendship forever. Something that meant Sasha hasn’t spoken to any of them since that night.

Performance was well done, however story was repetitive and eye-rollingly unbelievable, and predictable. Can only recommend because it was free and short.

Story
You’ve been excited about this getaway for months–at last, a chance to reconnect with your husband at a secluded island resort. But when he unexpectedly calls you from the beach, you hear the urgency in his voice. Something is very wrong. The beautiful waitress from the restaurant last night has been found lying dead in the sand. And the police want to question your husband about it. Sure, you saw him glance at her over dinner a few times, but you know he didn’t have anything to do with the poor girl’s death.

Implausable
Reviewed: 06-30-22
I did not find this story at all hard to follow, it was just so implausible. Author was going for an Agatha Christie type vibe, but missed the mark. We are to believe that Every Woman on this Resort thinks their husband is a murderer. I can't say more without giving something away. There is some redemption with the ending, however even that is a stretch.
It was well written and well read, just unbelievable.
Eye-rolling.

Story
On June 27, 1996, 30-year-old Anne Marie Fahey, who was the scheduling secretary for the governor of Delaware, had dinner with a man she had been having a secret affair with for over two years. "Tommy" Capano, 47, was perhaps the most politically powerful man in Wilmington. Son of a wealthy contractor, former state prosecutor, partner in a prestigious law firm, advisor to governors and mayors, Tom had a soft-spoken, considerate manner, endearing him to many. But sometime after 9:15 that night when Anne Marie and Tom left a Philadelphia restaurant, something terrible happened to her.

Good Story. Too Repetitive
Reviewed: 05-26-22
I love Ann Rule, however this story was told in WAY too repetitive format. It covered the same material over and over, often with the exact same phrasing. Repeated the same things. Many times in the same way. In the same way. Over and over again. Very repetitive. I, personally couldn't take how repetitive it was. It kept repeating.....a lot... In the same way............................... Interesting story, however I couldn't finish this audio, so I'll watch the old Mark Harmon movie about it or maybe a 48 Hours episode. This audio version was WAY too repetitive...;)

Story
Dorothy Graham is dead, which is inconvenient, not least for her. Luckily, she has planned for this eventuality. Now, if any of the truly dreadful people she is related to want to get their hands on her money, they’re going to have to do so via a fiendish difficult and frankly bizarre competition of Dorothy’s devising. After all, just because you’re dead, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a last laugh at the expense of people who made your life miserable.

Too Clever and Tedious
Reviewed: 06-20-20
I made it through only an hour and seven minutes...WAY too clever and cliche. I don't think I made it to the main plot...can't take any more. Narrator is qualified, however not the right choice for this...sounds a bit snarky...and his Korean character, Johnny, sounds just like the Kim Jong Il character in "Team America" (if you've seen that movie), for what that's worth, and all his female characters sound like gay men.
I will be asking audible for an exchange.

Story
Paxton never thought he’d be working for Cloud, the giant tech company that’s eaten much of the American economy. Much less that he’d be moving into one of the company’s sprawling live-work facilities. But compared to what’s left outside, Cloud’s bland chainstore life of gleaming entertainment halls, open-plan offices, and vast warehouses...well, it doesn’t seem so bad. It’s more than anyone else is offering.

Soylent Green meets a Sam Walton Biography

Evil corporation destroys world... Capitalism is bad... Soylent Green is made of people...oh, wait, wrong book...
If you enjoy reading books on why your life is miserable because big corporations have sucked off the backs of the working man, then you will love this book. If, like me, you believe in free market capitalism and and not thinking the world owes you everything just because your mom had sex with your dad and made you...then probably not...
The only reason this is at all suspenseful is the narrator reads it as such.
I would give it one star, however it was well written, just boring...and this story has been told. Nothing new here.

I enjoyed this, over-all, but thought, based on other's reviews, that this would be a Great...Best Story Ever. Nope, just good. Story was just so far fetched, but well written. Ending was just meh. Reminded me of "The Devil's Advocate ".
I wouldn't have bothered to review this, however there were so many stellar reviews... and I really don't see why the 5 stars...so, wanted to inject a more objective review...IMO.

Story
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Poor Choice of Narrator Make This Unlistenable
Reviewed: 03-13-19
Well, I'm bummed because Audible offered this book for free and it looks as though it might be a cool read, however, I just couldn't get past the first 10 minutes...They picked the wrong guy to narrate this. John Waters has an interesting voice...kinda older, nerdy, hillbilly sound...but this just doesn't work for this story. A better choice would have been Santino Fontana, Jeff Gurner, or Will Wheaton...somebody a bit more youthful sounding (No offence to John Waters, but this is an Audio performance).
Thank you for the free read, but I guess I'll have to wait until it's read by a different narrator or just read a hard copy book edition.

Unnecessarily Convoluted...Could Not Finish
Reviewed: 03-13-19
I read/listen to a Lot of Audibles and books... I could not follow this story. Author jumps around timelines, which is usually not a problem, except she mostly does so without letting us know when/where we are in time. Same thing with names and pronouns...you have no idea who is talking or about whom they are talking. Narrator doesn't change each charactor's voice enough to help differentiate.
Plot is unnecessarily convoluted. I have no idea how this ends, because I only made it to chapter 16 or so before I gave up on it.
I will return this book.

Story
A handsome, young urban professional awakens inside his cavernous high-rise apartment. He is an emotionless drone of a man content with his self-structured regiment and amazing wealth, and he is totally oblivious to his abnormal lifestyle. He keeps reliving the same day over and over, barely able to remember anything from the day before and unable to maintain mental order as he stumbles through his strange existence. One day, his routine is interrupted when seven strangers separately appear. Everything slams to a halt as they tell him that his physical body is in a coma and his consciousness is currently in a purgatory-like realm.

Sound Effects Make This Un-listenable...
Reviewed: 08-26-18
I just couldn't finish this book and will return it. Production decided to include sound effects for the most inane things, which greatly distract from listening enjoyment. Watch alarm (many, many times)....check, screaming demons...check, Elevator doors...check, squeaky carousel...check, car engine...check, office equipment...check..., slamming books on table...check, lame piano music...check, etc, etc, etc. A well written book does not need sound effects. My own mind will "hear" what is written. Even worse, is reader reads the line, say..."Elevator doors slide open...", then he stops and waits for the sound effects (which are also too loud and not balanced/leveled with narrator), then reads again, then stops, waits for sound effects, etc. Storyline is hard to follow, as it is, so sound effects just made it worse.
As far as the storyline...very "Alice in Wonderland" meets "Willy Wonka" meets "Ground Hogs Day" if told by "Quentin Tarrentino". I'm not saying it's bad, necessarily, just a bit convoluted, scattered, and dreamlike. Again, I couldn't get through more than 5 chapters, because of the sound effects.
If you decide to listen to the Audible version, you'll have to pay attention. This is not a "read" you can listen to while doing chores or driving, etc.
I may buy the hard copy book and physically read this, as it may be good...who knows...

Miserable Story about Miserable People
Reviewed: 07-22-18
This was a gut-wrenching, miserable story about very miserable people. Absolutely nothing about this story was worth reading. It was very well written, however I have to ask, "Why?". Was it a story of redemtion? No. Was it meant as an explanation of filicide? No. That Sweden (metaphor) is not the idealic life/place it appears on it's face? No.
Three sociopaths and a cop. That's it. Oh, and a pathetic, flawed neighbor and his sad wife.
I almost quit reading this book about every 30 minutes, but I kept waiting for something to happen, It never did, Just 8 hrs and 29mins of misery. Book left me depressed and angry. For no reason. If even one of the charactors was kind and worthy, it would have made for a much better story and review.
I'll be asking for a refund.
