Would you consider the audio edition of Killdeer Trail to be better than the print version?
David Lewis is as good an audio performer as any you will find. Amazing that such a great author can also narrate with an authentic dialect and pleasing tone.
Who was your favorite character and why?
A new and memorable character, Fayrow Dunlap, shows up in this episode of the Trail Series. He is a jewel like so many of Lewis' characters and I will let the story tell the rest.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Ruben first meets Fayrow.
Any additional comments?
Lewis' strong suit is his ability to confront his engaging main charters with a difficult, dangerous and complex problem and then you'll be amazed at the solutions they find using imagination, daring and determination. If you like westerns and have not read the Trail Series by David R. Lewis you owe it to yourself to download it and listen to or read it. Lewis is an amazing author and his growing list of books offers a broad spectrum of great literary entertainment.

A Great Western Novel in a Great Western Series
Reviewed: 12-11-14
Any additional comments?
Calico Trail is a great western novel in a great western series written and performed by David Lewis. Look at the ratings given by readers to David Lewis and his Trail Series of books. These books will become classics of western literature. I have read a lot of western books and have found none that are close to Lewis' books for plot, character development, humor and action. You only have to listen to one and you will be ready for more. Lewis is as gifted a reader as he is a writer and that is saying something. These are classic westerns in the old tradition. Marshall Marion Daniels, Homer Poteet and main character Ruben Beeler take on the challenges of dealing with hardened desperadoes, crooked lawmen and wealthy land barons in the Calico Trail. Young Ruben takes what he learns from Marshall Daniels and puts on his own twists as he deals with challenging interactions with men who don't play by the rules. He uses his 12" 12 gauge shotgun as often as a club as he does as a firearm.Look at the way high percentage of folks who give these tales a 5 star rating. Listen to one and you will be doing the same.

Story
When Ruben Beeler joins Marshal Marion Daniels to investigate an incident of theft and murder, Rube is plunged into a world of dark deeds and black hearts. With the help of an abused and courageous young woman, Rube, Marion, and Marshal Addriss Tippideaux head south of the Missouri line into the hills and hollows of Northern Arkansas, and take on an entire clan to see that justice is done. Suspicion of outsiders and hate for the government abounds, and the marshals are much farther from home than the miles they've traveled.

Where does Payback Trail rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
i have enjoyed the Trail series by David Lewis more than any audiobooks I have ever listened to and I have listened to many hundreds over the past 25 years. This is an exceptional author and a great narrator.
What does David R. Lewis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Lewis has a unique vocal quality that is both pleasant and interesting. The dialect is s a great enhancement to the story and an entertainment in itself--uniquely strong it is a genuine throw back to another time. I know of no one who has a more pleasantly unique style.
Any additional comments?
If you like westerns you should not miss this author--he is the best there is out there writing today. Just look at all of his reviews and ratings. Everyone who tries these books comes back for more. All the friends I have referred have become committed fans of Lewis.

Bought the combined 3 books Goodnight-Western and Chisolm Trails below average westerns that are chopped up to shorten in ways that leave you asking what just happened? Reader that may be good at some books but not westerns. Not a good purchase.

David Lewis is a great story teller and an excellent writer and narrator. His experiences with the metaphysical are interesting and a good listen. Many of hIs individual experiences are not believable in my range of experience but his ideas about who or what God is make as much or more sense than most religions and many philosophies. A lot of good sense is expressed in his ideas about how we interact with one another. Worth the time spent listening.

Time is a resource. Everyone knows it has to be managed. And on the Discworld that is the job of the Monks of History, who store it and pump it from the places where it's wasted (like the underwater; how much time does a codfish need?) to places like cities, where there's never enough time.

I have heard Stephen Briggs read 14 of Pratchett's books and I liked Thief of Time best. His talent for humor is on full display as he portrays the abbot of a monastery who is a 900 year old monk in a less than 2 year old infant's body. Both ages alternately are heard from the infant with memorable results.
The monks seem to be created from David Caradine's old Kung Fu TV series and all his Egors seem to be a recreation of Marty Feldman's role in Young Frankenstein. Highly recommended for fans of Pratchett and Briggs.

Pratchett is one of a kind. HIs story telling and Brittish wit are second to none. I always enjoy his books but this one is not nearly as interesting as Thief of Time or Nation.
NIgel Planer is an ok reader but Stephen Briggs is so much better I have a hard time buying the books not read by Briggs. Briggs is an extraordinary talent. He does it so well that I would always rather hear his rendition than read it myself.
