Moral Imagination
Reviewed: 07-01-19
This is a finely written book of moral imagination, the story of a woman and a man, on the wrong side of history to each other, during our country's conquering of the Sioux even as the Civil War was in progress. It's a hard struggle to claim universal goodness as forces are waging to divide one from the other, but an American woman and a Sioux warrior struggle "to repair the world." Story
Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her - her identity, her spirit, her will to live - pay. Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: Every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at 17 years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.
Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life.

Good for Old Age
Reviewed: 08-06-18
I am 75 years old and am a devoted listener to audiobooks. As my eyes are not the best, I have access to many more books than would otherwise be possible. This is a well-written coming-of-age novel; and as a retired psychotherapist, I think the author explores well the effects of trauma and the choices one has in overcoming them. My former practice included quite a few adolescents, and this book rang true for me. I will continue to look forward to books such as this.
