Being brief:
LOTS more fascinating information about Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ than what is generally known because of the familiar Christmas Story, and also the same regarding Herod the Great.
Additionally, the story is told in a very engaging way.
Fascinating and fun “read”! I highly recommend it!

Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Great story.
I listened bc JD Vance is VP pick with Pres Trump for 2024. I wanted to get to know him better.
I believe Mr. Vance was honest about his background. It was good to see that’s he, with help of others, was able to get out of the horrible situation he had grown up in. This was motivating to me to do my part to help!
I don’t like “bad language,” but it seemed appropriate and to fit in this text.
Fascinating read, and a great way to get to know KD Vance better!!!

But Annie wanted to see the Pacific Ocean before she died. She ignored her doctor’s advice to move into the county charity home. Perfect Tale of the Perfect Horse

I always loved the beautiful white stallions, and I had seen the Disney movie, “Miracle of the White Stallions” when I was MUCH younger. I was surprised at the rather important discrepancies of the book compared to the movie, but that was explained and it made sense to me. The tale was fascinating, and made possible by many who never received credit- at least until now! GREAT read, even if one isn’t a horse fanatic. And fascinating details and trivia about people and places. Kind of makes one realize that miracles do, in fact, still happen!

Lots of interesting facts. Was way above and beyond what I expected, because there was so much info I wasn’t even previously aware of! O’Reilly et al, do a good job searching out little known facts. He writes in a pleasantly “conversational” tone, like your chatting with a friend. He also does a good job clarifying potentially unclear yet relavent parts of the story. Interesting story, well told!

When Chris McDougall agreed to take in a donkey from an animal hoarder, he thought it would be no harder than the rest of the adjustments he and his family had made after moving from Philadelphia to the heart of Pennsylvania Amish country. But when he arrived, Sherman was in such bad shape he could barely move, and his hair was coming out in clumps. Chris decided to undertake a radical rehabilitation program designed not only to heal Sherman's body but to heal his mind as well - and so Chris decided to teach Sherman how to run.

I haven’t listened to a lot of books on tape, and most of the readers go at an even sort of clip to share their stories. Christopher McDougal reads his story rather like talking to a friend, with some starts and stops. While it took some time to adjust to his style, it was rather like you’re hearing the story over dinner with a friend.
I LOVED hearing all the outside info, all I learned about things I never would have heard anything about otherwise, and how everything tied in so well to the action line of the story. Character development was excellent and I loved hearing resolutions of challenges that played parts in the story…
WELL WORTH THE READ!!!

Story
Killing the Witches revisits one of the most frightening and inexplicable episodes in American history: the events of 1692 and 1693 in Salem Village, Massachusetts. What began as a mysterious affliction of two young girls who suffered violent fits and exhibited strange behavior soon spread to other young women. Rumors of demonic possession and witchcraft consumed Salem. Soon three women were arrested under suspicion of being witches—but as the hysteria spread, more than 200 people were accused. Thirty were found guilty, twenty were executed, and others died in jail or their lives were ruined.

O’Reily and Dugard did a fine job of sharing the historical background. Lots of information beyond what I previously had heard. Then in a delightful way, they brought both story line and reader into present times. As authors aluded, this tale didn’t finish all those hundreds of years ago. We citizens today aren’t all that much more sophisticated than those who were embroiled as both accusers and victims of long ago!

Very intriguing with lots of fascinating details! I had no idea there had ever even been a Rudolph Diesel. I’m glad there was, as the world would be so much different without his having been here! Delightful story, and the reader did a fine job with the various languages he periodically had to speak, he sounded as native with them as he did with English. 🙂👍
