Story
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Great story

I loved reading the origins of all of the different sects of characters and how the interactions started and weaved into each other. It gives a greater understanding and depth to the original Dune stories. Bring on the next one

Scratched the itch

To me the beginning of this trilogy rings closer to the writing style of the original Dune books laid out by the master Frank Herbert. Although his writing style, world building and moral commentary cannot be touched, these at least come close. I am in the middle of a Dune fest and I have decided to read all of them. I started with the originals, and now I am onto these prequels. They do an excellent job of laying the groundwork for why Leto Atreides was gifted Dune in the first place. Cannot wait to start House Harkonnen.

Story
The term “Hermetic” comes from Hermes Trismegistus, who was originally an Egyptian god (Thoth) and was later incorporated into Greek culture, and associated with Hermes. The term “hermetic” can mean “pertaining to alchemy and magic”. About 40 books are ascribed to Hermes Trismegistus. These books were written between about 200 BC and 200 AD and deal with alchemy, astrology, and philosophy.

A true sage

Can never go wrong with Terence McKenna. He was a true light in the world. His teachings, whether you take psychedelics or not are so profound and timely. Especially in todays world of late stage capitalism. His words are prophetic. I try to live my life through his point of view.
