What a wonderfully written and voiced recording by Pres. Obama! If you hate him, maybe this ease those emotions!
Of course if you loved him and his family, this will prove some wonderful texture to the 1st half of his presidency from the campaign to the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
I’ll probably listen a few more times!

À Chacun Son Goût...maybe
Reviewed: 04-24-19
When I am considering one of the Audible selections, as many do, I look at the reviews. Generally, I peruse the negative reviews first. And now I return fresh from hearing the book "Solitude" and I remembered seeing a couple of remarkably nasty reviews.
Normally I would simply say "À Chacun Son Goût"...to each his own taste but I dug a little further and found some of these folks write only mean spirited reviews. Maybe their nannies were hateful toward them.
I loved "Solitude" and am getting the second in the series and will probably love it too. R.C. Bray is about as good as it gets and his name associated with a book certainly gives it his seal of approval. I will not bore anyone with an arcane review of character development or plot tools.
Simple enough to say...great book, great read! Try it you will like it!

Dan Delgado is a private investigator. When it comes to finding cheating spouses, corporate thieves, or runaway teenagers, he’s unenthusiastic, and unmatched. As a former San Francisco detective, he misses more meaningful work, but he hasn’t had the heart for it since his wife’s death five years prior. That is, until a phone call from a distraught mother, an illegal immigrant who can’t go to the police, puts him on the hunt for a missing little girl. By the time he reaches the mother’s small home, she’s missing, too. The circumstances are strange....

R.C. Bray as a narrator is tops...just impossible to top!
Maybe you are like me...when I am shopping for a title, I go straight to the bad reviews.
After reading over the publisher's plotline summary, I read the negative reviews but was compelled to get this book anyway. Granted the strong reviews far outweighed the bad but I just went back to reread those bad reviews and wondered if they were the author's next door neighbor in a dispute over a noisy dog perhaps.
In short, the book was great. In fact, I assume the bad reviewers must have read another book altogether.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Story
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

A Remarkable Performance by Dylan Baker
Reviewed: 04-04-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I had never actually read Steinbeck. It would be silly for me to make any comments about his talent...thousands wiser than I have done that already.
I can however tip my hat to Dylan Baker. His treatment of Steinbeck is priceless. He seems to channel Henry Fonda but also has the perfect voice for every other character. His voicing for Joad's grandmother is priceless.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jim Casy, the preacher, is pretty fabulous and closely followed by Muley Graves, a neighbor of main character Joad.
These two men are remarkable and are brought to life in stunning clarity!
What does Dylan Baker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Well the very first thing is he allows me to drive the car while these characters explode out of some amazing writing. He also characterizes each character, giving each his or her own personalized voice and delivery.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was quite touched by the humanity of Jim Casy, the somewhat defrocked preacher as he explains why he has left the calling.

Bruno is a former soldier who has embraced the pleasures and slow rhythms of country life - living in his restored shepherd's cottage; patronizing the weekly market; sparring with, and basically ignoring, the European Union bureaucrats from Brussels. He has a gun but never wears it; he has the power to arrest but never uses it. But then the murder of an elderly North African who fought in the French army changes everything and galvanizes Bruno's attention.

A Lovely and Touching Crime Story
Reviewed: 01-12-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I recommend this to any lover of a good crime story "who done it" but it has a twist. I am used to the hard boiled tough as nails shoot em up American cop.
This member of his local constabulary (actually the only member) is cut from a different bolt of cloth in a delightful way.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Clearly Benoît Courrèges, aka Bruno of course!!
Which scene was your favorite?
The scene where the crime is solved! There's a love story wrapped into this wonderful story! It unfolds and that's a great scene.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I smiled a lot while listening to the story!

Story
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Should Be Required Reading
Reviewed: 01-12-17
What did you love best about Wild?
This book should be required reading for anyone who has faced adversity. I must admit I saw the movie first. The book fleshes out so many details hinted at in the movie.
Over and over again I was touched by Cheryl Strayed's search for the elusive meaning of life.
In the final analysis, this is everyone's story in one way or another.
What other book might you compare Wild to and why?
There are many books that chronicle a triumph of the soul. Another story comes to mind but was a movie...Hidalgo.
This is a classic example of Joseph Cambell's "Hero's Journey". We all take the journey...what matters most is what we learn about ourselves and life.
Which character – as performed by Bernadette Dunne – was your favorite?
Clearly Cheryl Strayed!!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Someone already did...read the book, listen to the audio and certainly see the film.

A Fabulous and Well Performed Tale

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd recommend the book without reservation. The story grabbed me and held on through twists and turns...I am so tempted to say things that might be spoilers.
Just get it....you'll say the same thing.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
From the 1st sentence, I was hooked. Even better, the story never let go...it was thrilling throughout!
What does Ellen Archer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I have been a voice actor for years and would love to have all the talent of Ms. Archer. While I do not know her work, I will definitely see what else she has voiced.
Top rated talent.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Well, that would spoil the plot. I teared up several times and had to sit in the car long after arriving at my destination several times just to see how a particular cliff hanger would be resolved.
This story has more unexpected twists than a carnival roller coaster.
Any additional comments?

Would you listen to Launch again? Why?
In the spirit of full disclosure, I have an Audible subscription and I did buy this title. Yes I had heard of Mr. Walker but have never met him, purchased anything from him or been to an event. We are not related and he did not slip me $10 to write this.
As a person who has dabbled around the edges of Internet Based Business, I know the challenges of getting your product online and selling in a meaningful way....mostly because I failed the first few times around.
After the second time through this wonderfully read and meat packed book, I feel I have a solid foundation to go out and launch my business with a real plan and success strategy.
I do admit that I read some of the less than stellar reviews before I bought and now after reading the book, apparently I read a different book.
Of course it's obvious he has products galore to his credit, but I did not feel I needed to buy something else to get value out of this book. It stands along on its own feet!
If you are seriously looking to sell online, here is the bible if you plan to "Launch" your product.
