David Spade is best known for his harsh "Hollywood Minute" sketches on SNL, his starring roles in movies like Tommy Boy and Joe Dirt, and his seven-year stint as Dennis Finch on the series Just Shoot Me. Now, with a wit as dry as the weather in his home state of Arizona, the "comic brat extraordinaire" delivers a memoir.

Couldn’t shut it off, this book is very funny. Spade reading it was more like him talking to you than an interview with the constant interruptions from a host.

After years of gigging everywhere from suburban backyards to dive bars, Van Halen - led by frontman extraordinaire David Lee Roth and guitar virtuoso Edward Van Halen - had the songs, the swagger, and the talent to turn the rock world on its ear. The quartet's classic 1978 debut, Van Halen, sold more than a million copies within months of release and rocketed the band to the stratosphere of rock success.

Pretty Good

The ending was 'meh', it felt like the author ran out of time and threw together a quick ending. If it wasn't for the unsatisfying ending I would have given the book 5 stars, it's a good story, and it felt like Star Wars without all of the hacky pull quotes from the movies. This is well worth the money, buy it, read it, become one with it....

Boring
Reviewed: 12-21-16
Catalyst is the 3 paragraph crawl that was stolen from Rogue 1 and turned into a boring novel. This book does indeed add some depth to the characters in Rogue 1, but I bought this book for adventure, not another telling of where everyone comes from wrapped around a boring story. If filler backstory is all you're looking for out of this book, then jackpot, it's for you, but if you are expecting excitement, and adventure, you'll need to focus on your Jedi training and convince yourself that you don't crave these things. It takes half of the novel before anything happens, and even then it's really not very engaging.
Luceno is a great author, he writes "Star Wars" very well, and the narration is great, along with the sounds effects, it just wasn't enough to buff a shine into this toilet tree.

I really liked Lost Stars, and was looking forward to this book, sadly it was painfully boring. Maybe if I was a young female I would have been able to get into a little more, but it felt like an agenda to push strong female characters was over the top and a distraction. I have NO problem with female characters at all, but in this book the men are wimps, or they don't know their own butts from a thermal exhaust port. Han makes a nice Han appearance but ends the day snuggling and talking about Leia's day. No wonder they eventually end up divorsed, I just hope he remembered to grab his testicles that Leia keeps on her nightstand before he left.
Overall the story was decent, but Claudia would have had to name a planet after me for me to read/listen to this again.

This thrilling young adult novel gives listeners a macro view of some of the most important events in the Star Wars universe, from the rise of the Rebellion to the fall of the Empire. Listeners will experience these major moments through the eyes of two childhood friends - Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell - who have grown up to become an Imperial officer and a Rebel pilot. Now on opposite sides of the war, will these two star-crossed lovers reunite, or will duty tear them - and the galaxy - apart?

Really, really, good.

This book was well written by an author who clearly understands the Star Wars universe. The narrator was excellent, and the sound effects were spot on. I especially like that the narrator DID NOT do the Wookie growls himself, and they used the stock Chewie voice from the movies, unlike Aftermath, which stinks so bad you'd want to stick your head inside a Taun Taun just to catch your breath. This author will hopefully write the sequel and save the series.
The only reason I don't give this 5's is because of the humanizing of the Empire. I grew up believing that Imperials did not socialize at the cantina on the death star, nor was there a cantina on the death star. I still think this is a really good read/listen, and I enjoyed it very much.

Story
As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance—now a fledgling New Republic—presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy’s scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy’s strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but he’s taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders.

Spoiler Alert! This book stinks.

This was by far the worst Star Wars novel to be published. The author made a point to make the listener/reader aware of multiple characters sexual orientation when he should have been developing the actual story, or why I should be routing for the hero instead of wishing a Rancor would step in and bite his head off. Clearly Wendig had an agenda. As a SW fan, I am able to suspend my disbelief, but this book was ridiculous, a young boy clings on to the hull of a ship while it's taking off, and instead of just leaving the atmosphere and letting nature take its course, a few stormtroopers are sent to open a hatch and dispatch the clinging boy. Yeah, that made sense. The narration bothered me too, the voice of Temmen sounded like Fry from Futurama, and Admiral Ackbar sounded just like Doc from Back To The Future. They should issue an apology to the poor suckers who spent money on this hunk of crap, and let someone else rewrite what could be an interesting story.
