Story
After Lucas dies during a freak explosion, divine intervention sees him brought back to life with the power to control a new dungeon. There are just a couple of issues: his old body is bound to his dungeon, and the craziness of what he thought was his final act is only getting weirder. When he sees newbie adventurers entering his dungeon, though, he decides to help them survive and complete their quests. After all, adventuring is a process, and someone needs to guide the rookies.

Eh, not a fan.

I picked this book up because Travis Baldree is the narrator and I adore the way he brings life into anything he reads. Unfortunately this book just wasn’t for me. It felt flat and there just wasn’t much connection to either the main character or the supporting characters. The time frame was very forced, even with the overpowered trope used to explain it away. When there was actual pages dedicated to character interaction and depth building they were good but just not enough of that and far too much “and suddenly they were more powerful for //reasonz//“. Some might enjoy the book, it wasn’t for me and considering book one is listed for $20 and book two is listed in Sep2024 for $50 (seriously $50???) I just can’t in good conscience recommend this book or take a risk on book 2. Not even for audible credits.

Good story, terrible performance

After listening to the the first set of Augmented books, where the performance was excellent, listening to Ryan Kennard Burke was like 8+ hours of nail on chalkboard abuse to the ears. His insistence on every male character speaking in a growl and every woman sounding like they are about to have an orgasm. Absolutely terrible. So bad I returned the audible book and swapped to kindle. I hope Ryan Kennard Burke gets better. Because this was just bad.
As to the book, I am sure from the first couple chapters I endured, it’s going to be as good as the first series, but the narrator has to go.

Story
A deputy sheriff was shot to death during a routine traffic stop on a dark country road. From what can been seen on the cruiser's video recorder of the killers, it is believed that they were a couple of Boston-based drug runners who had been on their way from Canada down to Boston. That's what brings Joe Gunther and his team to the investigation - an attempt to shut down the major drug running operation.

Bad narration

If you’re listening to all the books in order then this one is seriously annoying. The new narrator is just terrible. Like listening to a “the simpsons” knock off. Hard to listen to, not sure if the story is good or not. Going to return and see if the next has a better narrator. This guy is so bad.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Unique perspective. A little repetitive but not terrible. Narrator is amazing. Enjoyed the book.
Would enjoy seeing more of the story going forward.

Um what?

Listened to the first 4 books in rapid succession. So didn’t read reviews for this one, just bought it and hit play. And… what the???? It seems the book was supposed to be like book 3 but it did not do anything as good. This book appears to be the origin for Sam Thorne, but there’s nothing to tie it into any of the prior four books except the bottlecap-trashman. If you’re lucky enough to see the reviews before buying, just pass on this one for now. Come back to it whenever you start seeing sheep based Pokémon Go like activity references in future books. Who knows when that will be. I’m sure it’ll make sense eventually but for now I am just confused and disappointed.
