Topic is good, author is great, narrator is not

Tristan Morris always ends sentences softly. I had to turn volume up to understand. That made it hard to listen at bed time.

Disappointing

Legal proceedings weren’t convincing, characters pretty one dimensional, over long. I expected better from Dervla McTiernan.

De Waal's landmark work will convince you to rethink everything you thought you knew about animal - and human - intelligence.

Persuasive but a bit self contradictory

In Chapter 5, author says surely there's no extraterrestrials and it's a waste to look for them, then later hypothetically asked: If extraterrestrials come here why would they pick humanity' theory-of-mind capability as its point of difference.
In Chapter 7, author says Don't grade animal cognition from low to high because what matters is each species fits its niche, then indignantly scolded people who downgraded primate sociality down to the level of social insects.
Small quirks like these, however, did not detract from the author's deep and wide knowledge of his subject, or his fascinating exposition of it. I learned much from his book.

Intriguing premise is let down by bad writing and silly plotting. Don’t waste your time with this one.
