Story
After being stolen from her wealthy German parents and raised in the unforgiving wilderness of eastern Europe, a young woman finds herself alone in 1941 after her kidnapper dies. Her solitary existence is interrupted, however, when she happens upon a group of Jews fleeing the Nazi terror. Stunned to learn what’s happening in the outside world, she vows to teach the group all she can about surviving in the forest—and in turn, they teach her some surprising lessons about opening her heart after years of isolation.

A light in the dark

I truly enjoyed every aspect of this book. It felt real, shocking, and continued to captivate to the end. This story is a testament to survival, being human, and what it means to connect and embrace each other in the dark.
I love a historical fiction that feels well researched and takes care to be as accurate as possible. The authors note was powerful to the true stories of people who survived during this time.
A must read!

Story
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Fun, Refreshing, Warm

At first I wasn’t really interested in the story, I haven’t been a fantasy-witchy type since middle school. But after meeting with my book group and talking over the book I can back to it and listened on my long drives home. The vocal performance immerses you into the main characters world. The story is warm and hopeful. I would recommend to anyone looking for a lighthearted book.
