Story
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

So much better than the movie!
Reviewed: 08-28-21
I loved this book and found myself listening constantly rather than just when I'm in the car. After I finished it I watched the movie, which I barely recognized. If you have already seen the movie and don't think you would like the book go ahead and give it a shot. They are very very different. The movie is so bad that I don't think I would have really even understood what was happening had I not already read the book. The book is legal thriller, very John Grisham like.

Story
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Great!

such a great book told in a unique format. It is presented interview style in the various voices of each character as they give their different and often contradictory perspectives on the drugs, sex, and rock and roll that accompanied the rise and ultimate fall of a powerhouse arena band in the seventies. So realistic that I found myself googling them to find out if this was a real band. spoiler alert - it is not. but this book is so realistic that you will swear that you've heard their songs. I definitely think audio is the best way to enjoy this book so that you can actually hear the different voices.

This book is good enough to want to finish it, but is in no way riveting. It is actually quite depressing as we read about a slowly crumbling family.

Story
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

I Chose This Title Reluctantly...But So Glad I Did
Reviewed: 05-18-15
I don't know what made me pick this book. I'm not a backpacker. I'm not even outdoorsy. But I was happy to find out neither is Cheryl, the subject of the book.
I love her voice, the way she seemed so normal. She just really seemed like a normal person. and she just did this extraordinary thing! She did it like it was a normal thing.
Here's how I judge if a book is good… If I think about it while I'm driving down the road or I'm at work or I'm eating lunch and I'm wondering what's going on in the book… Well, then that's a good book. This book did that for me. In fact I don't think I've read another book quite like it recently. Like- I even want to go DO this now- hike the PCT. Which is completely ridiculous because I'm 2x more out of shape than Cheryl started on the trail being. And I am not outdoorsy AT ALL. But her voice was so relatable that she actually inspired me.
So, yeah, this is a very good book.
