Story
Renowned as much for her wit and satirical social commentary as for her stories of love and romance, Jane Austen remains unfailingly relevant and one of Britain’s best loved authors. In this Audible Original collection, an all-star list of narrators (Billie Piper, Claire Foy, Emma Thompson, Florence Pugh and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) capture Austen’s pin-sharp humour and tone in these dramatisations of her six beloved novels accompanied by a full cast.

Of course Jane Austens books are 5 star so this review focuses entirely on the incredible narrators. The excellent production brought Jane's comic wit to life.

Story
Between the World Wars, the six Mitford sisters—each more beautiful, brilliant, and eccentric than the next—dominate the English political, literary, and social scenes. Though they've weathered scandals before, the family falls into disarray when Diana divorces her wealthy husband to marry a fascist leader and Unity follows her sister's lead all the way to Munich, inciting rumors that she's become Hitler's mistress.

Great narrator, incomplete story
Reviewed: 07-28-23
I enjoyed the unique storyline about Hitler's love life through a fictional lense, without the book being lovey-dovey. I think the author did a great job at character development. However, the story is incomplete and leaves an annoying feeling like, " What! It's done already!"
****spoiler alert beyond this line*************
I think there could've been more drama with respect to WW2, perhaps Nancy arriving at the truth - that her sisters deserve jail. I would've liked to see Diana and her husband with a severe punishment. I would've also liked to see Unity heal and become incredibly guilt conscience as well as go to jail for her choices, perhaps not as astringent of a punishment as Diana. Or another swing on things- Diana and her husband end up in the hospital due to an attack by the Nazis, letting them bear the burden of their mistakes, while Nancy gets to take care of her kids. All the while, Peter returning to father them.

The story of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is very difficult to describe. Usually we give some information about the audiobook, but in this case we think that would spoil the listening. We think it's important that you start to listen without knowing what it is about.

Story
August 1942. Jacob and Moses Stein, two young Jewish brothers, are staying with their aunt in Paris amid the Nazi occupation. The boys’ parents, well-known German playwrights, have left the brothers in their aunt’s care until they can find safe harbor for their family. But before the Steins can reunite, a great and terrifying roundup occurs. The French gendarmes, under Nazi order, arrest the boys and take them to the Vélodrome d’Hiver - a massive, bleak structure in Paris where thousands of France’s Jews are being forcibly detained.

Performance was great. The story was exciting until the end.

The parents are such b@st@rds that I don't feel as though they deserved the boys. They should've been the ones to search the world for the boys, not vice versa.

Too heavy on the romance

Great performance by the narrator. My issue is with the story. I would've liked to see the focal point on war issues, and not so heavily on how the main characters could land a fiancé, husband, lover.

Story
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.
