F.U. Money: More Like F.U. Advice

I was genuinely intrigued when I chose "F.U. Money" by Dan Lok, or as he likes to call himself, "Dan the Man Lok." Given the title hype, I expected some groundbreaking financial insights. However, it fell remarkably short for a few reasons:

Contradictory Advice: Dan Lok makes some bold claims, but his advice often contradicts itself. For example, he'll preach the gospel of high-risk, high-reward strategies in one chapter and then completely flip the script by advocating for safer, more conservative approaches in the next. It's hard to take financial advice seriously when it's this inconsistent.

Lack of Actionable Advice: What's even more disappointing is the absence of any concrete, actionable advice. This book is filled with generalities and sweeping statements that offer little in terms of practical steps. It felt more like a long, drawn-out motivational speech than a guide to financial freedom.

Upselling Galore: By the time you finish reading, it's painfully clear that the book's primary goal isn't to help you gain financial independence. Instead, it serves as an extended sales pitch for Dan Lok's seminars and other paid content. Not exactly what I had in mind when I was looking for financial advice.

To top it all off, the arrogance that comes across in the writing does little to build credibility or foster a genuine connection with the reader.

In summary, "F.U. Money" was more of a miss than a hit for me. If you're searching for a financial book with actionable steps and less ego, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Sorry too much was spent on Epic Games and Roblox vs the evil high tech, which enabled these companies to evolve.
Also, too much was spent on the limits of current technology.
Not enough was spent on the premise of "How it Will Revolutionize Everything"!!

After the first chapter I almost returned it, but this book ended up inspirational.

I heard the first chapter and thought, “this was a book about an angry young man with a bone to pick“. I was determined to hear his whole story and as it progressed I was inspired more and more. Yes, he starts out angry, but as his story ends he overcame everything to become an exemplary and inspirational leader in everything he said out to accomplish.
One note… In my opinion, they could’ve chosen a better narrator because it sounds like he is struggling with a lot of the medical terminology which makes it sound somewhat disingenuous.

A thoughtful easy listen read by the man himself! Not a scientific study with a lot of facts and figures, just a lot of common sense based on a life well lived. FYI my 101-year-old mother-in-law who doesn’t look a day over 70, wholeheartedly agrees with just about everything Dick says.

I found quite a bit of insight into the world of Apple and Steve Jobs. The author also gives quite a fascinating view of the inside workings of the people at Google.

I can’t speak with Expertes on history prior to 1960, but I know a lot about it up until today. The most glaring faux pas was related to the world trade center. I had to listen to it several times to verify what I heard, but the author actually said only six people died and 1000 people were injured! He also went on to talk about the convicted terrorists is there they were fighting some type of righteous cause. You might wanna listen to the end before you start from the beginning, just saying. FYI, I am a centrist in political beliefs and don’t lean far left or far right.

While I am listening to this audiobook, my wife is also reading the hardcopy version. We have both come across the same opinion that way too much of the book concentrates on age discrimination, or ageism. I really wish this knowledgeable author would have given more solutions than problems.

Even though this is a "collection of writings", It appears to be just a reading of shareholder letters all of which you can read for yourself in the annual statements. The author should have cited in the audio where the information came from. Sorry but, in my opinion, not worth the price of admission.

I did listen to the entire audiobook because I enjoyed his other book, Onward, so much. Several thoughts kept nagging me throughout the listen. First, this seemed too geared (perhaps intentionally) to be a primer to his run for President and I kept thinking that this book should have been on Audibles free offerings. Next, he seems to hav a lot of guilt mainly for having money, not serving in the military and being white. Finally he offers no solutions to reimagine America as written in the title. When he announced his Presidential run I thought he may be a candidate with a lot to offer, but now I feel his run it mainly to alleviate his inner demons, not make a better country, sorry Howard and good luck!

Tim is a southerner, but for some reason the publisher choose a British narrator. About 40 minutes into the book he refers to Steve Wozniak as “Jaws-niak” (perhaps the European pronunciation?), not once but twice!
