Story
They call him the Oracle. He's got 46 years under his belt and more hash marks than a football field. More importantly, he has a crew of cops to look out for on the streets of Hollywood. From his understaffed office at Hollywood Station, he keeps a close eye on his squad who spend their day in patrol cars, and their nights in the underbelly of a city that never sleeps.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I have recommended to every person I know
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Oracle, he is like the old Sergeant from the TV series Hill Street Blues who always ended his briefings with "Let's be careful out there."
Have you listened to any of Adam Grupper???s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No this was my first time and I loved it. he has this way of bringing the characters to life it was hard for me to stop listening - I also wanted to it to never end.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The whole book had scenes throughout that moved me - I wish the series would go on forever - I have heard each of the Hollywood stories at least 4 times and never get tired of them.

Story
When Dinko Babich, a young longshoreman, delivers Lita Medina, a young Mexican dancer, from San Pedro Harbor to a Hollywood nightclub, their lives are forever changed. What made the experience of listening to Harbor Nocturne the most enjoyable?
Joseph Wambaugh's story telling grabs you from the start and doses not let you go. He has a way of making his characters real and his fiction stories so real you would swear they were right out of the hidden Los Angles Hollywood never shows you.
What about R. C. Bray???s performance did you like?
R.C. brought depth and texture to all of the characters - this made the story even more real - I actually had deep feelings for the main characters thanks to R.C.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Dinko's mother finally accepted Lita with all of her baggage and short comings and Lita finally learned to trust someone and most of all how Dinko grew up and became the man his father would have been proud to say was his son.

He is a damned good cop -- a burned-out homicide detective wrapped around a Smith & Wesson .38 and a vodka bottle. She is his partner -- twice divorced, nursing a grudge against men, obsessed by the awful temptation of love.

Wambaugh is a great story teller

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
I liked Oliver's voice for the Russian characters in this book - he also did a good job with Natalie. The depth of the voices he used helped the listener to understand the characters - why they did what they did - they became three dimensional and you actually cared about them.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
I fell in love with the Hollywood station series - then I listened to Harbor Nocturne and found it captivating so when I stumbled onto Black marble I had to listen to it to see if Joseph Wambaugh's first novels were as good as his later ones. I found the writing to be good - Joseph has definitely matured in his writing - I would recommend all of his works as I said he is a great story teller.
