Story
It’s been a decade since Trumanell Branson disappeared, leaving only a bloody handprint behind. Her pretty face still hangs like a watchful queen on the posters on the walls of the town’s Baptist church, the police station, and in the high school. They all promise the same thing: We will find you. Meanwhile, Tru's brother, Wyatt, lives as a pariah in the desolation of the old family house, cleared of wrongdoing by the police but tried and sentenced in the court of public opinion and in a new documentary about the crime.

It was good, but i also didn’t like it.

this is a book i should have actually read instead of listened too. i don’t want to dog the narrators because they did a great job, it just wasn’t really hitting me right. i’m a native texan & felt like the accents were a bit much. i also felt like the ending or explanation was rushed given how long the book was. its not my favorite but i also didn’t hate it.

Story
Some say that to change the world you must first burn it down. Now that belief will be tested in the crucible of revolution: The Breakers and Burners have seized the levers of power, the smoke of riots has replaced the smog of industry, and all must submit to the wisdom of crowds. With nothing left to lose, Citizen Brock is determined to become a new hero for the new age, while Citizeness Savine must turn her talents from profit to survival before she can claw her way to redemption.

I'll likely listen to all 9 at least 2 more times before we get a new trilogy (we had better get another trilogy)...
Such an incredible conclusion to the age of madness, and I just want more.

Story
Bitter and merciless war is coming to the frozen north. It's bloody and dangerous and the Union army, split by politics and hamstrung by incompetence, is unprepared for the slaughter that's coming. Lacking experience, training, and in some cases even weapons, the army is scarcely equipped to repel Bethod's scouts, let alone his elite forces. In the heat-ravaged south, the Gurkish are massing to assault the city of Dagoska, defended by Inquisitor Glokta.

Story
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

Simply incredible
Reviewed: 12-20-16
Joe Abercrombie's world of the first law, filled with its intrigues, mysteries, horrors, and strange ane slightly unsettling love and hatred is one of the most captivating dark fantasy worlds that I have ever had the privilege of visiting. This is my third time listening to The Blade Itself, and I will be listening the other 5 books as well.
Stephen Pacy provides the perfecr performance, bringing each character to life in colourful and nuanced production that is rarely found in audiobook presentations. His voice acting is simply top notch, providing each character their own unique voice and lending a perfect hand to the already well crafted and written characters created by Abercrombie.
If you are a fan of dark fantasy worlds in the vain of Stephen King and George RR Martin, then I truly believe you absolutely love this trilogy, and its companion novels.
In all - 5 stars across the board. I wait and breathlessly anticipate the next book set in this world.

Take one look at Kevin Smith: He's a balding fatty who wears a size XXL hockey jersey, shorts, and slippers year-round. Not a likely source for life advice. But take a second look at Kevin Smith: He changed filmmaking forever when he was twenty-four with the release of Clerks, and since then has gone on to make nine more profitable movies, runs his own production company, wrote a best-selling graphic novel, and has a beautiful wife and kids. So he must be doing something right.

inspirational numbskullery
Reviewed: 10-16-16
Kevin Smith, you either love him or hate him. He has never been one to NOT laud his successes AND failures to anyone who will listen. That however, is simply a character flaw that I'd wager at least 80% of Americans suffer from. The difference being, Kevin Smiths successes and failures are actually interesting.
Smith narrates his own sort of autobiography in this title, while lending nuggets of wisdom and hope to the read/listener to reach for their goals, consequences be damned and be proud of not only the result, but the effort.
The story itself, gives a unique introspective view into the rise of Smiths star, through his own eyes. His mannerisms and style, and obvious feeling is put into this production in a way that makes you feel that you are literally having a (very fun) one sided conversation with the ever self important (and rightfully so), Kevin Smith. Like him or hate him, this autobiography is worth the read/listen, as despite what you may not like about Smith, he worked his ass off to get where he is, and he delights in recanting the tale to whoever will listen, and does so with a wit to match the unlikely story of his success.
Here's to Kevin Smith - a hero for the nerd class that does things his own way and never asks forgiveness for doing so.
