Story
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother. As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was.

High Hopes / Disappointing
Reviewed: 11-17-21
The story was ok - way to many plot holes and an ending that didn't quite make sense. The narrator did an ok voice except with the bratty 16 year old character - she made the bratty kid sound more like a slightly drunk spoiled college student. It was awful!

In Body Love, Kelly LeVeque shared her popular science-based “it’s-not-a-diet” approach to clean eating, weight loss, and wellness, centered on the Fab Four - protein, fat, fiber, and greens. As Kelly (and modern science) has shown, eating the Fab Four balances blood sugar, helps you eat and feel full, and naturally turns off your hunger hormones. Now, Kelly is back with exactly what her fans want: an action plan for adopting the Fab Four lifestyle. Kelly knows that women aren’t all alike.

The narration is awful! The book is read by the author and she speaks with a girly tone ending most sentences as a question. Why oh why do folks do this! The information on this book is nothing new, very similar to her previous book, and is currently all over the internet. Eat more protein, more vegetables, healthy fats, stay away from sugar, etc. She also sprinkles throughout information about where one can buy her products and vendors that she advertises.

Story
Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline, and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors. Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl - but that’s just what happens with visitor Avery Greer and Littleport resident Sadie Loman. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable - until Sadie is found dead.

Awful waste of a credit

The narrator is horrible; a high pitched voice that sounds like a teenager reading a mystery novel, but the main character is a young woman in her 20s. The story is boring and none of the characters are compelling, I just did not care what happened to any of them. The main character jumps into conclusions that make no sense and the timeline of the story jumps back and forth in a very confusing manner. Not to mention that the reader/listener is supposed to keep track of the cutesy name that all the houses in the story have. I had to rewind many many times to keep track of what was happening. This would probably make for an ok made for tv movie, but awful as a listen or book.

Story
When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

A few chapters in and you can already tell what is happening. I kept thinking where is this going, especially the infuriating main character, who is portrayed as so weak and borderline stupid. Maybe this is on purpose but in my opinion did not help the plot.

Story
This wise, stirring book argues that the search for meaning can immeasurably deepen our lives and is far more fulfilling than the pursuit of personal happiness. There is a myth in our culture that the search for meaning is some esoteric pursuit - that you have to travel to a distant monastery or page through dusty volumes to figure out life's great secret. The truth is, there are untapped sources of meaning all around us - right here, right now.

Ok - not great

This book is ok - like a long article. A lot of stories that make you wonder "where is this going?". I really disliked the narrator - I am not sure why so often books are narrated by these sultry voices that make you want to go to sleep. It's the same with the Brene Brown books.

What would have made Present over Perfect better?
The whole concept of the book can be summarized in a few paragraphs. Instead the author goes on and on and on with metaphors and imagery that is really not necessary.
What was most disappointing about Shauna Niequist’s story?
The author wants us to believe that she is slowing down yet she tells us the story of how she writes a book, attends church, has speaking engagements, goes out with friends, speaks daily to friends... it's exhausting! And my goodness the whiny voice! Too much.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Exhaustion
Any additional comments?
Am I the only one who is tired of these bloggers wannabe writers who over flourish/over complicate their language when what they really say is simple? SHe talks about the tenderness of a conversation.... what????
