Story
When Andrew stumbles upon Jamie’s house, he’s injured, starved, and has nothing left to lose. A deadly pathogen has killed off most of the world’s population, including everyone both boys have ever loved. And if this new world has taught them anything, it’s to be scared of what other desperate people will do . . . so why does it seem so easy for them to trust each other? After danger breaches their shelter, they flee south in search of civilization. But something isn’t adding up about Andrew’s story, and it could cost them everything.

Absolutely Solid Story Telling
Reviewed: 10-06-22
Speaking as a reader who has gotten very burned out on the usual post-apocalyptic tropes of super grim hardboiled characters, this was amazingly refreshing. The heroes of the story are characters I actually like and who care about other people, and thus I care about them. There is a combination of altruism and vulnerability on display that makes me invested in what happens to the protagonists.
The focus on queer protagonists was a welcome change from the norm, especially when they can exist for their own sake and not just serve as side props to be buried. Having had to suffer through untold streight romances that dominate almost all mainstream fiction, it's nice to get a break and see that yes, queer relationships can exist in the apocalypse too.
In short, likeable characters, solid story, a very satisfying read with a journey that feels worth going on. Highly recommended.

Story
On Earth, political tensions boil over between the United Americas, Union of Progressive Peoples, and Three World Empire. Conflict spreads to the outer fringes, and the UK colony of New Albion breaks with the Three World empire. This could lead to a Colony War. Trapped in the middle are journalist Cher Hunt, scientist Chad McLaren, and the synthetic Davis. Cher, seeking to discover who caused the death of her sister, Shy Hunt, uncovers a far bigger story. McLaren’s mission, fought alongside his wife, is to stop the militarization of the deadliest weapon of all—the Xenomorph.

One of the better Alien novels!
Reviewed: 07-19-22
Alien novels are a guilty pleasure of mine and the quality varies, but I really was into this one. I feel like the author gets what makes xenomorphs scarry, there were some very likeable characters I was genuinely rooting for, and it was an all around engaging narrative.
I also liked the side trips into the political meta narrative that give a glimpse into the wider happenings of the Alien universe. They gave a sense of context and of larger things going on, and I'm looking forward to future novels exploring an ongoing persistent story.
The narrator does a good job, I always had a good sense of which character was speaking.

Story
It was supposed to be a harmless camping trip. Six wayward teenagers who'd run into trouble with the law, and their court-appointed guardians, Sara and Martin Randhurst. Three nights on a small, deserted island off of Michigan's upper peninsula. A time to bond, to learn, to heal. Then Martin told a campfire story about the island's history. Of the old civil war prison hidden in there, and the starving confederate soldiers who resorted to cannibalism to stay alive. Everyone thought it was funny. They even laughed when Martin pretended to be dragged off into the woods.

Not my cup of tea

This just did not work for me. A fair bit of the horror moments read like they were written by Cartmen from South Park.
