Story
In this must-listen book for anyone striving to succeed, pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth shows parents, educators, students, and businesspeople - both seasoned and new - that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a focused persistence called "grit". Why do some people succeed and others fail? Sharing new insights from her landmark research on grit, MacArthur "genius" Angela Duckworth explains why talent is hardly a guarantor of success.

Incredible stories, trustworthy insights

Who was your favorite character and why?
This has been one of the most helpful I've ever read, and I read a lot of self-development books! There was a news story on NPR about the credibility of her research but honestly, it's not the significance of the data that matters, it's what the data represents that's the most meaningful. Being someone that has always struggled with a defeatist attitude, a history of negative self talk and subsequent inability to trust I know what I'm passionate about, my life has been changed from listening to this book. I hope she knows that her own passion of "using psychological sciences to change young people's lives" really shines through in this book.
What about Angela Duckworth’s performance did you like?
You can feel the warmth, sincerity and confidence in her voice
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The stories she told about real-life experience with grit. In particular, a story she told when she was about to fail a class in college. She was given the choice between dropping out of the class (and probably changing her major of neuroscience thus affecting the entire course of her life) or staying in the class and trusting that she can pass despite her failing grades. I'm sure you can guess which she chose and what ended up happening..

Story
What if charisma could be taught? For the first time, science and technology have taken charisma apart, figured it out and turned it into an applied science: In controlled laboratory experiments, researchers could raise or lower people's level of charisma as if they were turning a dial. What you'll find here is practical magic: unique knowledge, drawn from a variety of sciences, revealing what charisma really is and how it works. You'll get both the insights and the techniques you need to apply this knowledge. The world will become your lab, and every person you meet, a chance to experiment.

Life changing book, hard to follow the exercises via audible
Reviewed: 03-22-16
I loved this book, it really was a life changer. My only issue is that it had a lot of exercises that were intended to be done during reading but I would listen to the book while driving, making the exercise aspect more difficult. Luckily all the exercises are online but you lose the flow of why exactly you are completing the exercises when not in the midst of the chapter. Will probably purchase the paper copy too as it was a great book!
