Historia
Nina Sankovitch’s American Rebels explores, for the first time, the intertwined lives of the Hancock, Quincy, and Adams families, and the role each person played in sparking the American Revolution. American Rebels explores how the desire for independence cut across class lines, binding people together as well as dividing them -rebels versus loyalists - as they pursued commonly held goals of opportunity, liberty, and stability. Nina Sankovitch's new audiobook is a fresh history of our revolution that makes listeners look more closely at Massachusetts.

Ok Story. Whipered Narration
Revisado: 04-13-24
I found the story mostly interesting and was enlightened on several characters, but especially about John Hancock, so I endured the narration. But this audio-book could've been recorded in a library without the narrator receiving a single, "Shhh!" My mind began to drift and I couldn't help but wonder what would happen to the narrator in life if she ever found herself in a situation that required a yell? If she yelled, "fire" in a crowded theater would anyone try to leave? etc etc. I noticed the she has done some mental health titles, which probably works for her, she sounds like I would imagine a therapist might.

Historia
To master anything, one must first master themselves–one’s emotions, one’s thoughts, one’s actions. Eisenhower famously said that freedom is really the opportunity to practice self-discipline. Cicero called the virtue of temperance the polish of life. Without boundaries and restraint, we risk not only failing to meet our full potential and jeopardizing what we have achieved, but we ensure misery and shame. In a world of temptation and excess, this ancient idea is more urgent than ever.

Good Title
Revisado: 06-18-23
The title is the highlight of the audio book. Although some interesting tales in the book, the structure seemed scattered and the delivery was amateurish to my ears.

As the storm is unleashed on the historic lodge it becomes clear the training has been compromised. Trapped by weather, isolated by the remote wilderness, and silenced as communication with the world has been severed, unarmed SEALs face an unexpected and deadly foe.

First and Last Rachel Grant
Revisado: 04-09-23
I think I got this on the Daily Deal. I like action-adventure, bad-ass stories like The Gray Man series, but not romance. Turns out this is a hybrid of the two which I (happily) didn't know existed, but which plods along tolerably, but far from exceptionally until the very end at which time I'm expecting the final wrap-up, yet the story veers into a way too unnecessarily detailed sexual encounter that repeatedly and incongruously uses graphic words like, "cock" and "clit" like it's a movie trying to get an "R" rating in the last scene. Unbelievably, in the heavy breathing, just post-sex climate of this final scene, the two main characters of the book have a conversation revealing to each other that they would rather not know the gender of their soon to be born child, preferring the mystery and recognizing that the child may not be the same gender as assigned at birth. A ten hour audiobook torpedoed by 2 minutes of porn and 10 seconds of insanity.

Historia
In the near future, the constitution is outlawed, the government is ceremonial at best, and the country is about to lose her name. No one knows how this happened or why America prostrated herself to the kind of foreign forces who would impose obedience through compliance. Resistors call the occupation “creeping death”. Those countries grabbing at the reins of power see it for what it is - a full-scale invasion.

Amatuerish Story
Revisado: 09-05-21
I usually like Kevin Pierce and would give him a 5 star, but he mis-pronounced krav-maga in this audiobook over and over. Are there no editors/producers? I also generally like this genre, but this story is weak to the point of amateurish. The character development is weak. The 4.7 rating suckered me in, but I'll be avoiding Ryan Schow in the future.

Historia
La moria grandissima began its terrible journey across the European and Asian continents in 1347, leaving unimaginable devastation in its wake. Five years later, 25 million people were dead, felled by the scourge that would come to be called the Black Death. The Great Mortality is the extraordinary epic account of the worst natural disaster in European history - a drama of courage, cowardice, misery, madness, and sacrifice that brilliantly illuminates humankind's darkest days when an old world ended and a new world was born.

Tedious Narration.
Revisado: 07-12-21
Couple of things before I write what I thought. One, I usually have some background noise when I'm listening to audio books. Two, This narrator has performed dozens of audio-books, so my dislike seems to be in the minority. You should at least listen to the sample and judge for yourself.
The narrator voice is proper UK english, about which I'm neutral, but his delivery habitually dropped the last word before a comma and the last word of the sentence (almost every sentence) to a whisper or near whisper. He also whispered or near-whispered almost every quote from contemporarys' journals. So not only did I struggle to hear at least a couple of words per sentence, but I found the highly repetitive nature of this pacing off-putting. After awhile, the proper english pronunciations and the whispering almost merged into a single irritant and I wanted to say, "Grow some stones, man...TALK. We're not sipping tea in the library."
The book has plenty of interesting stories, but I thought it wandered a bit. While the book was talking about the plague in Britain, I skipped to the end. I just couldn't slog through any longer.

Finding fame and success as a bad-boy band, only to find themselves challenged by authorities everywhere....

Cockney Narration Slow-Paced.
Revisado: 01-20-21
When the narration goes cockney or whatever that is, you might want to go to 1.25x speed. It almost makes it sound like a normal speaking tempo.

Historia
On July 27, 1996, a hapless former cop turned hypervigilant security guard named Richard Jewell spotted a suspicious bag in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park, the town square of the 1996 Summer Games. Inside was a bomb, the largest of its kind in FBI and ATF history. Minutes later, the bomb remotely detonated by the attacker amid a crowd of 50,000 people. But thanks to Jewell, it only killed two and wounded 111, not the hundreds who authorities estimated could have otherwise died. With the eyes of the world on Atlanta, the games continued.

Enjoyed this fill-in-the blanks and refresher on the Atlanta Olympic bombing and Richard Jewell. The narrator does a mostly good job, but the fake southern accents is distracting.

This is the book you've been looking for: a deep, dark conspiracy that should delight those who loved the Jason Bourne movies, as well as fans of authors Vince Flynn, Tom Clancy, and Stephen Hunter. You won't believe what happens when free speech slams into the messy realities of national security. Meet Nick Woods, a former Marine Scout Sniper, who used to be one of our country's greatest operatives. Meet Allen Green, a ballsy reporter in his fifties, who's desperate to break the biggest story since Watergate.

When Russian President Valeri Volodin's ambitions are foiled in Dagestan, he faces a difficult choice. The oligarchs who support him expect a constant flow of graft, but with energy prices cratering, the Russian economy sputters to a virtual halt. Unable to grow the Russian market at home, his hold on power relies on expansion abroad—a plan that has been thwarted by the United States in the past. But this time Volodin has determined that an indirect approach is the best.

A bit of a slip for Mark Greaney
Revisado: 12-27-15
I almost didn't buy this because of the inherently dishonest (although widely accepted practice) of putting a dead author's name on a book cover. However, I've listened to Mark Greaney's Gray Man books as well as his last "Clancy" book and really like his work. This book, in my opinion, is not up to par with his previous titles. Probably my last "Clancy."

Short tells a good story.
Revisado: 10-06-15
I've never been a fan of Martin Short's characters; they always fell flat with me and this book didn't change that opinion, I must say. However, Short IS an excellent storyteller who has known tons funny people and he recounts many hilarious events and one-liners, often in the voice of the original speaker. Well worth a listen.
