Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Way too many characters
Reviewed: 04-02-25
I read this because of all the reviews. Not really sure the point of the story. Really hard to follow. I ended up printing off a list of all the characters in this story to keep up with who was who. Over 30 people to keep up with, in two story lines was too much for me. Tried to like it.

Story
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident.

Hooks you from the start. Not your ordinary love triangle. I was expecting a different ending. Everybody loves young love and hate the rich boy’s mothers! Don’t miss this one! A great book!

Was the story about the twins or about the moms or ?? I found this book had too many characters and too many under developed story lines. This book never left me anxiously waiting for the next chapter. Not for me.

I liked the first two, however, this story line lagged. It didn’t seem to be as thrilling or fast paced as the first two. My interest in Freida is waning!

I dare you not to love this book! There are times when it seems a little long and detailed. However, if you love stories about the Asian culture and about lost love, twists and turns, you will enjoy this story. I wasn’t ready for it to end, even after 24 hours. You feel like you have known the characters for years! A very moving story! I really enjoyed this book!

I am not a fan of Cat and Mouse or Mouse and Cat!! This book had opportunities, however, it stayed along the same story line of intrigue. And it was easy to get bored. I stuck with it and the ending was good, however, several times I almost quit.
