Story
The first book of D Day Through German Eyes has fascinated listeners around the world with its insight into the German experience of June 6, 1944. Now, book 2 contains a completely different set of astonishing German testimonies from the same archive. These newly translated eyewitness statements by German veterans show the defenders to be determined but psychologically insecure, often deluded in their thinking, and all too human in their shock at the onslaught they faced.

Better than some classic Sherlock stories
Reviewed: 10-02-19
I've read/listened to a lot of Sherlock. Dozens of hours worth. I have to say this trilogy is more adventurous than most traditional Sherlock novels. I hope they do a fourth. I can't wait to read more stories about Mycroft, Douglas and Juan!

Story
Arthur Dent's accidental association with that wholly remarkable book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, has not been entirely without incident.Arthur has traveled the length, breadth, and depth of known, and unknown, space. He has stumbled forward and backward through time. He has been blown up, reassembled, cruelly imprisoned, horribly released, and colorfully insulted more than is strictly necessary.

Story
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

A story well worth reading
Reviewed: 09-21-17
I have always been fascinated by WWII and recently began reading books about different aspects of the war. From a book about Operation Neptune, to a couple of different stories about midway, and Churchill's long winded unabridged account of the war, I attempted to read anything that seemed of interest.
So imagine my surprise when I came across this tale and do not remember any mention of the Indy in any of the books I've read before. (going to reread all of them to make sure). If the Indy could disappear for that long without anyone noticing, what about smaller vessels? What about single airplanes out on patrol? The invincible military machine of the United States was not perfect, and who knows how many stories like this have been hidden away like make-up on an unsightly bruise?

Story
Dealing with war on a giant scale, The Grand Alliance focuses on events as Britain, after fighting a desperate battle alone, was joined in the struggle against the enemy by Soviet Russia and the United Sates. Hitler's invasion of Russia brought to an end a period of almost exactly a year during which Britain and her Empire had stood alone. Six months later, the United States, attacked by Japan, joined the war and the Grand Alliance was born.

This one was just as entertaining as the previous 2. Churchill is humbly self-serving, and that fact makes this story very entertaining.
