Not related to the series
Reviewed: 07-06-20
I kept waiting for some relevant tie in to the main story, other than the fact that a non character in this book was prominent in the last one. Not related to the main story at all. Should definitely not be called part of the series. Also, predictable and uneventful.

Supremely funny

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I believe it was one of the free offerings from audible. Very funny, a nice amount of sarcasm, and a lot of pop culture references made me wish for more. I will certainly be looking up the author.

Can you believe too long?
Reviewed: 01-08-18
I very much enjoyed the first book. I got it as part of the white mage omnibus which at the time I assumed was the entire series. As it turns out there are three books in the omnibus and a total of five in the series . I Not usually one to complain about a series being too long. But in this case, it seems that the extra content just makes it drag on and on without actual resolution. I find myself impatient for an end. I believe this is because of the way the main enemy for so long is presented as omnipotent and seemingly unstoppable, with no attempt at forecasting any way she could be beaten. Obviously the heroes win in the end, but all of their virtues have either already been shown to be ineffective, or are COMPLETELY ignored as assets. (I am speaking here of the main characteristic of the heroine which makes her, supposedly, unique and pivotal, but which is never used even after being practiced a little and pointed out as crucial to success.) The combination of the obvious success at the end for the good guys and obvious insurmountability of the enemy does not make for compelling reading but rather tiresomeness. There is only so long you can stretch out, "Oh, no! The enemy is just too powerful, but we can't give up! We must fight on! "
Nevertheless I would, in general, recommend this series . Give it a try and see if it is for you because if you enjoy it there's a lot of content here with a nice mix of action some character development and eventual plot progression . I am going to listen to the final book , mostly because I would just like some resolution.

One hundred and seventy-five years have passed since god quit on mankind. Without his blessing, Hell itself, along with the ancient power of The Deep, were unleashed upon the world. Two world wars and oceans of blood later, a balance was reached. Demonkind took its place as the ruling aristocracy. Mankind, thanks to its ability to create, fell to the position of working proletariat. Alive, but not living. Lucky us. Welcome to New Golgotha, the east coast supercity.

Enjoyed the story, but not the narrator
Reviewed: 11-07-17
I almost quit early on because I couldn't get into the main characters portrayal by the narrator. I'm glad I stuck it out because the story was great was plenty of action and some good characters. I never really did get into the narrator.

I couldn't finish. Mostly it was the story, but the narrator didn't help, over-emphasizing childishness and whining into irritations.
