Story
Emma Rini is in a rut so deep she could shelve books there. While her sister awaits her first baby, and her parents kick off retirement with vow renewals and travel, Emma stays put among the stacks of the family bookshop. In fact, she can’t remember the last time she took a vacation. Or had a romance that hovered above disappointing. When her parents assume she’ll take over the shop for them without a break, she realizes she needs to get away—back to the nineteenth century.

The recording was very distracting
Reviewed: 03-26-25
The audio recording was subpar, At times the narrator would whisper almost making it impossible to hear, but if turn up the volume it makes everything hard to understand. At time the narrator seemed to mumble. The story had a very slow start and i found it hard to keep my attention. The main character's obsession, and let's be clear it is an obsession with Emily Dickenson is odd to say the least. I powered through the recording but it didn't really pay off, the story was just okay.

Story
On a dark and stormy December night, my family are gathered at an isolated hotel in the English countryside. We're reuniting for the first time since the accident that shattered our lives ten years ago. It's a time for love and forgiveness. But more than one guest has an ulterior motive. As the clock strikes midnight, one member of our party is found dead at the foot of the grand marble staircase. Everyone is a suspect. But which one of us is a killer?

A little Confusing
Reviewed: 12-25-24
I got the audiobook because it was advertised as Whispersync. However, the chapters do not line up with the Kindle book at all. There are chapters missing from the audio book and vice versa. Also having a character named Erin, married to an Aaron makes an audio book very confusing as the names are pronounced the same. The story itself did keep me listening. It wrapped up quickly and ends on a cliffhanger. So I'll probably read the next book (it doesn't look like it is available as an audiobook).

Missing Parts in the Audio Version
Reviewed: 01-02-24
Anytime there was a news article in the book it was omitted from the audible version, but was in the ebook/Kindle version. It left out some important parts of the story. I am glad I was reading along while listening otherwise I felt this story would have been hard to follow.

I loved this book. YA is not my usual genre, but the cover spoke to me. The narrator was good, however there were several times in which you could tell edits happened and words had to be re-recorded.

I don’t write a lot of reviews, but I’ve not seen a lot of love to the narrator. I thought Santino Fontana did an excellent job. I read the other Hunger Games & didn’t listen to them so I don’t have another narrator to compare him too, but he had great voices & kept me entertained.

The greatest love story ever told
Reviewed: 09-12-19
I listened to this on Audible and the only reason I chose it was because it was Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club pick. I am so glad it was chosen because it was a great story. Based on real life events of a CIA plot to infiltrate Soviet Russia. They pulled two women out of the typing pool who had “special skills” and used them to smuggle the book Doctor Zhivago out of the USSR, which is said to be the greatest love story of the 20th Century. This book actually tells two stories at once, the writing of Doctor Zhivago and the dangers of writing such a story at the time. It also tells the story of the women from the CIA typing pool. If you get the chance you should definitely give this a listen, the cast of narrators are excellent, some with better Russian accents than others, but they add life to the words.

Story
"I believe there is another man inside every man, a stranger...." writes Wilfred Leland James in the early pages of the riveting confession that makes up "1922", the first in this pitch-black quartet of mesmerizing tales from Stephen King. For James, that stranger is awakened when his wife, Arlette, proposes selling off the family homestead and moving to Omaha, setting in motion a gruesome train of murder and madness.

The night is dark and full of terrors
Reviewed: 10-14-17
Stephen King is known for his narrative pose and this book did not disappoint. All the short stories (1922 not that short) focused on the dark side of people and the need for revenge. Just your ordinary everyday people doing bad things. I bought the audible book for the first story, 1922 but stayed for the fantastic narration. Craig Wasson and Jessica Hecht did a fantastic job, you could not have picked better narrators. Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes Entry
