Excellent Mil SF + First Contact

The mil SF field is pretty crowded, and there are a lot of excellent authors out there. If Isaac Hooke is not on your list, I heartily recommend him.
His focus is on the brotherhood of the soldiers, as well as the struggle against unknown enemies in strange places.
If you are a fan of mechs/battle armor this is definitely for you.

I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy. This is post-apocalyptic, with an element of the supernatural. Very well done, and not overly graphic. I'll be looking for the next book.

Good clean fun

(There is some strong language)
This was my first LitRPG book. It's a little jarring at first - like you're watching an episode of Pokemon, and the narrator starts reading the stat sheet from the Pokemon game. But it gives a concrete sense of the development of the characters (he's now 10% stronger).
And when I say Pokemon, it's because this is literally Pokemon with a different name.
