Good, but the end fell a little flat.

I enjoyed "Curse of Salem" very much. However, the ending fell a little flat. It just needed more drama and suspense and less of a rush to the end.

Story
With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends. Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits. Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses.

I've read this more than once...
Reviewed: 09-10-20
I've read this series more than once. So the fact that I purchased (not with credits!) says something. I was totally annoyed with the narration. She didn't keep her characters straight and more than once I was confused who was talking -- Brenna or Connor! Her accents are more Scottish to my ear. More guttural. An Irish lilt is more on the tip of the tongue than the back of the throat.
Furthermore, especially in the beginning, she made Maera and Brenna sound like older women instead of the vibrant young women they are. It did improve some, about 1/3 of the way through, but still, it wasn't a good representation of either of them to my mind.
Then there was the screeching... Others have called it yelling. Personally I hope to never encounter this narrator again.
As for the story. It is a typical Nora Roberts tale, with love and fighting and romance and sex and lotttttsssss of tension! :) I think it is fair to say that having it on Kindle (since the books were released) and buying it again seven years later on Audible means I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
The next two stories in the trilogy have different narrators, so I am hopeful there is an improvement!

Story
Jane Austen's most popular novel, originally published in 1813, some 17 years after it was first written, presents the Bennet family of Longbourn. Against the background of gossipy Mrs. Bennet and the detached Mr. Bennet, the quest is on for husbands for the five daughters. The spotlight falls on Elizabeth, second eldest, who is courted by Darcy, though initially she is more concerned with the fate of her other sisters.

I am like a kid

I'm like a kid, I listen to the story every night... over and over I listen to it, it's soothing and it puts me to sleep. I love the story. This, I believe, is the love story that, at its heart is the basis for every good romance novel or movie. A&E did it best in their mini series of this book. And, the reader of this book was in that mini series playing the young, shy Georgiana Darcy. She clearly draws from that experience and brings the characters to life.
I highly recommend this book!!!

I Kept Waiting for it to Get Better (It Didn't)
Reviewed: 06-28-18
What an awful convoluted story Full of $20 words and too much pretension. The story is not believable in the least, and the ending is abysmal. Although the narrator is highly acclaimed, based on the 2 books I've listened to with him narrate, I cannot figure out why. His voice is nasal and irritating. He has no sense of regional/cultural accents and when he tries they come out all wrong. Others have said good things about this author. I think I will pass him by after listening to this book. I will also avoid audiobooks narrated by George Guidall.

Story
Bill Wile is an easygoing, hardworking guy who leads a quiet, ordinary life. But that is about to change. One evening, after his usual eight-hour bartending shift, he finds a typewritten note under the windshield wiper of his car. If you don’t take this note to the police and get them involved, I will kill a lovely blond schoolteacher. If you do take this note to the police, I will instead kill an elderly woman active in charity work. You have four hours to decide. The choice is yours.

Not Koontz?s Best Work
Reviewed: 06-20-05
You know the horror movies where you want to yell at the dumb kids not to go anyplace alone, not to explore, not to do anything dumb? Well that is how I felt about Billy and his friend in the beginning of this book. I wanted to yell at them both for being soooo stupid!
At the half-way point I actually considered giving it up, but having an insatiably curious nature I had to find out what happened. I'm glad I did.
It was not at ALL like I expected. Why Billy behaves the way he does becomes clear as you understand his past. An understanding of childhood horrors explains why he is the unemotional person that he is.
Be forewarned, this is a very cerebral novel in many ways -- with true horrors. NOT for the faint of heart.
While Velocity was clearly NOT Koontz's best work (and I have read well over 35 books of his) it was an interesting ride.
