Well as usual Nora Roberts as JD Robb delivers for Dallas and company. Looking at the reviews, and I'm sorry to say based on her last few Nora Roberts titles which have been disappointing I was worried. But as JD Robb she has the In Death Novels down to a science.

This was a solid addition to that world, expanding on the history of Roarke and showing the teamwork, love, and understanding he and Eve have for one another. While not a big mystery or much suspense in the events involved in this book, as I said it's a solid addition that fans of the series will enjoy.

I purchased this on a whim as I'm a fan of romance with some action and thrills to it, and after seeing the reviews I figured, why not. well, I'll tell you why not.

The characters were mostly annoying and I found myself hoping the bad guys would kill the lead female character and just get it over with. Shes (spoiler alert) strong and brave enough to fake being unconscious and cut herself free from the ropes at the end, but goes all weak at the prospect that her ex special forces lover could have been killed when he was doing his former security job. Please. And the ex special forces guy, former head of his own security company, not only (spolier) let's her set up this for this saturday market deal after two attempts on her life and finding her ex dead, but fails to keep an eye on her. If anyone thinks that's realistic, you're nuts. Those are just two of the multitude of stupid things that made no sense to me regarding how the characters acted.. But whatever, let's move on to the crux of the matter folks. This is a romance book, and while I'm all for love at first sight or instant attraction, the whole "oh she needs a friend, I should be a better man" bs was just that. This isn't a battle of wills or some such nonsense to be pure and true. Both the main characters spent more time thinking about having sex then undid at 15. Get on with it already and make it worth the time. Also the scenes in question should make you a little hot, not make you wanna cringe. The sex scenes were sophomoric and pedestrian, trying to create drama and angst where there didnt need to be any. This will they, wont they crap was a waste. When they finally get to their first sexual encounter it felt like a couple of shy virgins fumbling in the dark. She's all, omg a cock, and he's all, I cant hold on at the barest touch. She can say the only man she ever slept with is the ex fine, but jesus, it's not like she never kissed a guy before or had any kind of intimacy. And the big bad former special forces guy talking about how he might blow in his shorts like some adolescent boy was ridiculous. Also, Meg if you're reading this, if you use the terms, cock, balls, dick, etc. in the text and then constantly have the main character refer to it as his netherregions, you seem to be missing the point. Use euphemisms or dont, you cant do both and ve convincing about the tone of your work. Which leads to the final problem, major spoiler here too, and that's the whole plot. The big, omg twist with the killer being in love with her ex and then killing him when she doesn't get her way. What a waste, M Night Shyamalan you are not, and that crap doesn't work for him either.

Overall the book was a waste with a whole bunch of filler and very little substance. You've got an ex special ops guy and a big rural environment and you didnt put them on the run where he actually gets to use his skills? Shit, if it wasn't for the boy, major random and unneeded addition, he wouldn't have even found her. It bounces perspective every couple pages which is not only annoying, but not done well. Read some Nora Roberts if you wanna see how it works well. I cant believe there are three books and this series. Meg, please stop or at the very least put some depth into the characters.

This was a pitiful excuse for any kind of romance. Seriously lady, pick one genre. Erotica, bdsm, romance, action. Your sex scenes were pedestrian, neither pleasurable to listen to or erotic. and certainly not sexy. I kept waiting for you to get on with the story but after listening to ten minutes of what the MC thought about being raped by a boy, I said the hell with it. Too bad you dont but out the crap and just write the story. Your writing shows promise

They're are many complaints about the narrator, which in my opinion are crap. she did a decent job. Accents were nice, the characters were differentiated, and you could actually discern emotions. I'm not sure where people are finding fault.

The story was a good one, though it dragged toward the end a bit, overall I was happy with it. Honestly, I didn't see the ending coming, which in most books I can, and the the characters were fairly well developed. In all honesty I think the author could have taken a bit more time with the romance and those scenes, but as the main character Trent is fond of saying, "Everyone is a critic" and I didnt write it😁. So I say, sit back, enjoy the experience, and have a little fun with this book.

Distasteful Male lead

While the first two books in this series were alright, though the male lead in book 2 is an ass, I couldn't even listen to this one. He's immediately offputting and had I been the female lead in their opening scene together I'd have been tempted to pull a gun and shoot him. That's really all.imhave to say on the matter.

This is the second book I tried from Veronica Scott. I'm so disappointed as I was really looking forward to it. but again the female narrator. Jesus, find someone with some talent.

The female.narrator is so bad I didnt make it 5 minutes. Sorry, but this is a romance novel not a high school book report. Hire someone descent and redo it and maybe I'll give it another chance.

Not bad but....

I was pleasantly surprised by this. The characters were real though their could have been more depth and there were unanswered questions. For example JRs mother's death was mentioned several times with no real explanation so it felt unfinished. The ending was also rushed, and went from 0 to 100 in half a second which was my major issue with the story. The love scenes were alright, neither too graphic nor to weak and the build up and anticipation was nice enough. Not a bodice ripper or an add for abstinence but somewhere in between. The author definitely needs to work on her Male perspective though as it's just a bit too much alpha without any real alpha. Trying to show the characters as damaged or flawed is one thing but come on, he's either got balls or he doesn't. Ultimately not too bad.

So of the three books this is the one that's probably most completely about the main characters as the author wraps up the trilogy. That being said she suffers from the same problem in this as the others. Adding to much on for no reason. The inclusion of the Jolene character served no real purpose and didnt even add that much drama to the story. Add to that the ending, which is sort of a RIP off of the movie Cocktail, and it leaves one disappointed. The book could easily end 20 pages earlier and be just as good.

This was a fun sexy read better than her second in the series as it maintained better focus on the two main characters. If you didnt know that it was a series though you might be annoyed as the author leaves far too many unanswered questions in the subplots she created. The ending was good but drawn out and could have been wrapped up in a bow much quicker. Overall not a bad read though.
