Fun holiday mystery
Reviewed: 01-09-24
Nice holiday mystery with magic, friendship and a little romance. Perfect for reading surrounded by holiday decorations, (nothing dark or graphic) and a feel-good ending. I hope to see more Humbug gang stories.

Teenage pranks
Reviewed: 12-02-23
Storyline relied on pranks, but no magic used to fix the issues. People turned into frogs left alone hoping they would revert by morning - no one questioned when a family member didn't return home? Lacks character development.

Story
The Gingerbread Café is always full of Christmas magic. Come rain or shine (or even a July heatwave), there's always a hot chocolate bursting with cinnamon and marshmallows waiting for you. For introverted Gretel, it's been the perfect escape from 'real life'. The owner, Nell, is Gretel's last link to her late mum, and hiding out at the café feels so much safer than making new friends. So when Nell suddenly passes, Gretel is left heartbroken. Then she discovers that Nell has left the café to her—but there's a catch.

Not light hearted fun
Reviewed: 12-20-22
Not the light-hearted fun read I was hoping for. The heroine struggled for most of the book with being an introvert with a childish desire to make everyday Christmas by wearing and surrounding herself with a Christmas decorating theme, not with the Christmas spirit. She focused on her loss, isolating herself. With all of the mental baggage, deciding to take on a business that requires constant customer interaction, baking skills and business acumen was not logical for someone without those skills. The romance was not believable, no cute or meaningful incident for a love connection with a man who hates the holiday.
