Story
In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron’s evil dominion. Thus begins J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, which continues in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

One narrator, So many voices!
Reviewed: 03-17-24
I absolutely love this narrated rendition! Andy Serkis is a man with so many talents and willingly shares them with us all. I have always loved Tolkien and I enjoy the stories even more with the narrator, Andy Serkis. Like all good books, the more you read them, the more you learn. Andy gives life to each character and keeps your attention throughout the story. I have lost count with how many times my husband and I have listened to LOTR and Hobbit and yet we return often to listen to them. One of my favorite series in print and in audio.

Story
From the end of the 18th century, Americans traveled west to find new homes and new lands. They brought with them the magics of plain people. It is from these roots of the American dream that award-winning writer Orson Scott Card has crafted what the Charlotte Observer called "a uniquely American fantasy." Using the lore and the folk magic of the men and women who settled a continent, and the beliefs of the tribes who were here before them, Card has created an alternate frontier America.

I want to be a part of the Crystal City
Reviewed: 10-17-22
love the story and love the narrators. I want to be a part of the Crystal City and the wonders of making. This story has captivated my attention since I was a teenager with the alternate history of the United States and the possibility of people having knacks that can be used for good or ill. At times as I listen to the story I wonder what knack I would have and if I would qualify to be a maker to help with such a lofty goal/ dream. I need the next book!

OSC does it again!
Reviewed: 08-11-22
Orson Scott Card does it again! Another book in the Alvin Maker Series that moves the story along towards the Crystal City. The voice actors are awesome as always. They are the same actors that read Enders Game Series and I enjoy every minute listening to the stories. I have read the books since the 80's and loved them then, I have listened to all of the books at least 3 times since buying them and each time I hear something new just like I do when I read a book a couple of times over. Well done OSC and crew. Thank you for the alternative history of the US and bringing a little knackery/ magic back into mine.

Renowned as much for her wit and satirical social commentary as for her stories of love and romance, Jane Austen remains unfailingly relevant and one of Britain’s best loved authors. In this Audible Original collection, an all-star list of narrators (Billie Piper, Claire Foy, Emma Thompson, Florence Pugh and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) capture Austen’s pin-sharp humour and tone in these dramatisations of her six beloved novels accompanied by a full cast.

I listened to all of the books and enjoyed each one. The narrators were outstanding. I love Emma Thompson and could listen to her all day. The narrator that I was hesitant about, Billie Piper, ended up being an absolute delight to listen to. I listened to her book twice and enjoyed every minute. Job well done to all narrators and actors. You have made this compilation one of my favorites of all time. It was an absolute joy to listen to and I will probably restart tomorrow! Thank you for bringing the characters to life and helping me to transport myself into each story and enjoy being there in the moment!

Finally a story to enjoy
Reviewed: 06-11-22
Finally a story to enjoy about angels, The Fae, mermaids, demons, witches, werewolves, sprites, and so much more. I enjoyed this story. Rarely do I find a story that has so many different fantasy species in one book and this one brings so many to the table. The story mixes magic that is used for good and bad with îssues still being addressed in society. Who am I? Where do I belong? Do I do what's right because it's right and damn the consequences? How do I heal from loss? Do I truly know anyone? When it comes down to it we are blessed to find someone to love so deeply and unconditionally regardless of their mistakes.
The language used wasnt necessary though. As we were listening to the story my husband remarked that he hadn't heard the'F' word used so muchin one story. It could do without that. The graphic descriptions of what the characters wanted to do and did do wasn't necessary either. It didn't enhance the story rather it detracted from it. Instead lead to it and let us use our imaginations and life experience to fill in the "naughty" bits.
All in all I really liked the story, interactions between the characters, and the world I was drawn into. Finally a story to enjoy.

Charlotte McBee knows she’s in for a challenge when she accepts a job as midwife for a dragon and a phoenix shifter. Being a fairy herself, it isn’t the supernatural world that scares her. It’s the thought of delivering a giant metal dragon’s egg, which has her gritting her teeth in pain for poor Jillian, the anxious mother-to-be. While preparing for the big event, a handsome town resident catches her eye. Leonard is kind, charming, and a little bit mysterious. He’s also suffering from a highly unusual condition brought on by an ancient fairy curse.

Story
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!
