Maeve Merritt knows all about magic. After all, she found Mermeros the djinni in a sardine tin! But not even magic can give her the freedom to do the daring things she wants to do in her life—things not allowed for girls in 1897. When Maeve and her friend Alice visit Cambridge University, though, she’s amazed to meet ambitious young women breaking down barriers in science, in education, and in sports. But just when it seems like her dreams might one day come true, thieves looking to steal Mermeros put Maeve and her friends in danger.

Perfect Christmas Gift
Reviewed: 12-17-22
This beautiful book of intertwined stories has been the perfect gift to me this Christmas season.
I listen to books at Christmas time to do several things… one is to uplift my heart with all the busyness of the season and stay focused on the true meaning of a Christmas. This book has delivered that day by day and I have had opportunity to listen in bits and snatches. It has brought tears to my eyes and warmth to my heart! I am ready, with just a week to Christmas Eve, to listen to it all over again!

There are many things about myself I have not understood all these years. I am excited to implement them and listen to this book again while having the hard copy in hand, which I just purchased! It is too valuable and life changing not to listen and read again, and again, and again!! ♥️

Wonderful read and like book 1... cliffhanger!

I am truly enjoying this trilogy. I guess if I was reading this four years ago and would have to wait for several months or a year for the third book, I would be frustrated. However, now in 2020, I get to pick up the third book right away and carry on. And I can hardly wait!
This series addresses so many issues that exist among Amish life and the English life, especially where the two are intertwined. I am thankful for these books that present a very real scenario and presented so tastefully well!

Story
In 2003, software engineer David Miller left his job, family, and friends to hike 2,172 miles of the Appalachian Trail. AWOL on the Appalachian Trail is Miller’s account of this thru-hike from Georgia to Maine. Listeners are treated to rich descriptions of the Appalachian Mountains, the isolation and reverie, the inspiration that fueled his quest, and the rewards of taking a less conventional path through life. While this book abounds with introspection and perseverance, it also provides useful passages about hiking gear and planning.

Excellent book and presentation! Let's go hiking!
Reviewed: 08-26-17
I live in PA near the Appalachian Trail. Since moving to PA 24 years ago because of my husband's military assignment , I know very little I realize. Having hiked on the local trail, usually with family or friends from out of town, I had no clue about what it meant to be a through hiker or what a huge undertaking and experience it could be! I have even known through àhikers who did the complete AT hike but. Ever followed through with finding out about their experience. I am very grateful for the excellent and interesting way Davis Miller shared his journey. He definitely kept my attention through the entire hike and brought to the forefront a desire to hike again! I thank him for that!
The only discouraging thing about this book in audible format is the inability to look st the pictures! Now that I am done with the audible book I plan to get the hard copy from the library so I can sit down and enjoy the pictures!

Helen Simonson is an amazing writer who has woven a beautiful story with incredible character development! The people come out of the pages and become real life people with whom I enjoyed spending time with, and some whom I disliked immensely, and cried with and celebrated with! The only bad part of the book was when it ended! This is must read for anyone who loves a beautifully researched and written story that will capture your attention and your heart! Our very discerning book club gave it a five thumbs up out of five and that does not happen often!
