Story
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Classic Story, Excellent Production, Minor Quibble
Reviewed: 08-19-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. Recommended it to my Mom, in fact.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dune?
No spoilers, please. :) I will say that I actually felt transported to this world, which few books are ever able to do to me.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The singular/plural confusion written into this question underlines my one quibble with this book: The decision to use different narrators for different characters is fine, but for some reason, this production does not stick with that decision; using multiple narrators for some chapters, and a singular narrator for most others, even if there are multiple characters talking in that chapter. It is pretty distracting, but still, I would not lower my rating of the book just for that.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"Cancel Your Plans. This Will Be a Good Deal Longer than that Movie from the 80s."
Any additional comments?
This is a classic that actually deserves the distinction.

Story
In Face the Music, Paul Stanley - the co-founder and famous "Starchild" frontman of KISS - reveals for the first time the incredible highs and equally incredible lows in his life both inside and outside the band. Face the Music is the shocking, funny, smart, inspirational story of one of rock’s most enduring icons and the group he helped create, define, and immortalize. Stanley mixes compelling personal revelations and gripping, gritty war stories that will surprise even the most steadfast member of the KISS Army.

You Wanted the Best....

What made the experience of listening to Face the Music the most enjoyable?
The fact that is was narrated by Stanley himself.
What did you like best about this story?
The personal, honest nature of the story. Stanley admits that this is the way he remembers things, and he comes through as more honest and open than any of the rest of the "original 4" members of KISS. I also liked how it was really more of a personal story than just a story about the facts/rumors surrounding the band.
What does Paul Stanley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The emotional context to the words is so clear when read by the person who went through all of this himself.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Several, actually. Most of them having to do with Paul's struggle with his microtia, and his personal struggles outside of the band with romance, the Phantom of the Opera, and so on.
Any additional comments?
I would say that this is worth a listen even if you are not a KISS fan, but that's hard for me to say, because I am a ridiculously huge KISS fan. Still, this book has more to it than just minutiae about a bunch of guys who spent a lot of time in (and sometimes out) of makeup on a stage with pyro cannons blasting.

Story
Only a handful of people in the world know that mankind's magic comes from a living creature, and it is a refugee from another universe. The Power showed up here in the 1850s because it was running from something. Now it is 1933, and the Power's hiding place has been discovered by a killer. It is a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. Earth is next. Former private eye Jake Sullivan knows the score. The problem is, hardly anyone believes him.

Satisfying End to a Series
Reviewed: 05-18-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. The narrator was excellent, and the story was perfect for long car rides.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters. This is a fun bunch of folks to read about, in a really cool setting, going through well-paced, interesting, and action-packed story.
Which character – as performed by Bronson Pinchot – was your favorite?
Jake Sullivan. Toru Tokugawa is a close second, though.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"Power: It isn't what makes you. It's what you make of it."
Any additional comments?
I have pretty much nothing in common with this author's well-known political beliefs, and I really did not like the first "Monster Hunter" book that I tried to read, but I have fully enjoyed every book in this series. On the strength of this series, and of Pinchot's excellent narration, I am absolutely looking forward to listening to "Dead Six."

Story
When the Empire threatens the galaxy’s new hope, will Han, Luke, and Leia become its last chance? When the mission is to extract a high-level rebel spy from the very heart of the Empire, Leia Organa knows the best man for the job is Han Solo - something the princess and the smuggler can finally agree on. After all, for a guy who broke into an Imperial cell block and helped destroy the Death Star, the assignment sounds simple enough.
But when Han locates the brash rebel agent, Scarlet Hark, she’s determined to stay behind enemy lines.

The Star Wars That I Was Looking For
Reviewed: 04-17-14
What made the experience of listening to Honor Among Thieves the most enjoyable?
The characterization, the pacing, and the very excellent narration.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Honor Among Thieves?
Any of the many dead-on pitch perfect wisecracks and retorts delivered by Han Solo or to him by others.
What does Marc Thompson and Ilyana Kadushin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Thompson was a simply excellent narrator, his only weakness being the "sameness" and general "strangeness" of his voices for female characters. Ilyana was good, but not on the same level as Thompson.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book made me smile and chuckle several times.
Any additional comments?
Great action, great fun, great book.

If you could sum up The Light Fantastic in three words, what would they be?
Fun, Charming Adventure
Who was your favorite character and why?
The luggage! ...Well, if I had to pick one that actually had some "spoken" lines, that would be pretty tough. Rincewind gets the most time, but Cohen, Two Flower, and the rest are all entertaining.
Have you listened to any of Nigel Planer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Never before, but I will listen to as many of them as I can from here on out, as I feel like this is a great way to experience this series. (I had read "The Colour of Magic", "Equal Rites", and "Feet of Clay" before in print, but that's all)
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Over the edge of the world, heading straight for the sun...all in a day's work on the Disc.
