Story
The philosopher asks: "Faced with the mutually exclusive choice between moral principle and the survival of your family, which is the correct path?" Philosophers love to pose such questions, and in the day-to-day struggle, such thinkers rarely attain to a level of relevance rivaling that of the simple hunger pang. Their careful considerations dissipate under the leveled gun. We do not feel their disapproving gaze when The Others draw near. When the world sends doom, the survivors do not hesitate. The survivors do what is necessary.

I liked it enough to know 1/2 way through the book that I would be signing up for more. Excellent dystopian story. The steamy sex is relevant to the plot and generously sprinkled throughout. I think we should separate our Metrosexuals from our Real Men right now! Buying next in series ASAP. Narrators make a great duo!

This was a really good book. I plan on diving into the entire series. This guy has prepped to his heart's content and it all falls apart, but he picks up the pieces and knows how to survive anyhow. Love the military refereces to the wars in the middle east, it makes the story easy to relate to.

I really like the POV from the Dog, author seems to have nailed the personality of this breed. Neat idea, funny & fast paced. I don’t usually buy books shorter than 8 hours because I feel short changed but I will be spending the credits for the 2nd book for sure!

I Will definitely add his other books to my wishlist! One note, while I enjoyed the narration, I have to agree that the Scottish accent did sound more India Indian rather than Scottish.

Story
John Birmingham is the master of alternate history adventure - and now he's mastered a new genre with the volcanically fast-paced and wildly inventive Dave Hooper urban fantasy series. The series is anchored by a thrilling high concept: An oil rig opens a rift deep in the ocean that unleashes terrifying monsters into the world. But perhaps its coolest asset is its hero, Dave Hooper, a tough, bleakly funny, down-on-his luck oil rig worker with an unlikely destiny as a monster-slayer and world savior.

Meh..I really wanted to like it, but I was turned off by the way we were dumped into the hive mind of the demons. I think I would rather have heard about how they were forced under the capstone to begin with. I was not able to suspend disbelief long enough to enjoy this. I will return it, but I liked it well enough to check out some of the author's other books. Hoping that they are a little more rooted in reality.

One Christmas Eve in a small hollow in Boone County, West Virginia, struggling songwriter Jesse Walker witnesses a strange spectacle: seven devilish figures chasing a man in a red suit toward a sleigh and eight reindeer. When the reindeer leap skyward, taking the sleigh, devil men, and Santa into the clouds, screams follow. Moments later, a large sack plummets back to earth, a magical sack that thrusts the down-on-his-luck singer into the clutches of the terrifying Yule Lord, Krampus.

Very interesting Christmas read! Not the book version of last years movie....Dark, fantastical, engrossing, but also laugh out loud funny at times. Very possible in a many ways...It will have you wondering if Krampus isn't so bad....and just how Santa came to possess so much magic. This narrator is right up there with the ranks of R.C. Bray and Duke Fontaine.

This was an interesting new take on the ZA! We have all read a myriad of books that tell the ZA story from the beginning. This was refreshing because it tells the story about life 15 years after the upheaval. The author coaxes you into understanding a whole new viewpoint. Amazing! Beware it does start off slow, but hang in there it is worth the ride, your credit and your NEXT credit in my opinion!
