Story
Vera Wong is a lonely little old lady—ah, lady of a certain age—who lives above her forgotten tea shop in the middle of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Despite living alone, Vera is not needy, oh no. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop.

I enjoyed the characters and the story. it was heart-warming and engaging. Vera is a bossy lady who cooks delicious meals you'll want to enjoy with her and the others. The mystery was good, I liked how the characters all bonded over time. for me this book was a good find. I've listened to so many mediocre cozys this was a delight.

Story
When Emily Lane isn’t busy running her charming Christmas-themed store, “Under the Mistletoe”, located in the quaint tourist town of Fletcher’s Grove, she finds herself compelled to investigate not so quaint local murders. On the surface, Emily is a perfectly lovely, good-natured puzzle-solver and mystery lover. But she is hiding a secret past from everyone in town. And when Emily begins her personal investigations, Detective-Constable Sam Wilner, a smart and attractive cop—with a crush on Emily that is not completely unrequited—begins to wonder if there’s more to Emily than meets the eye.

Lately, Kate has a lot on her dessert plate. She's launching a cookie-of-the-day challenge in the heart of Coral Cay, providing sweet treats for the reception of the town's handsome new veterinarian - not to mention dealing with tourists in town for a pirate festival and the surprise arrival of her former fiance, Evan, who seems determined to win her back. And if that's not enough, a skeleton has been found - in the backyard behind her best friend Maxi's floral shop. Kate knows Maxi could never hurt a fly.

pleasant cozy
Reviewed: 05-03-24
I like the main character and her best friend. they have a nice relationship. i also appreciate that there's no forced romantic relationship. I find this series an overall pleasant cozy. it has been a while since I found one that isn't annoying. there are a few elements of the story which are a bit repetitive, namely she's always giving away cookies which as a new business owner I find not good business. all in all it is a feel good cozy. I hope a fourth installment will be written.

Kate McGuire’s life was sweet in Manhattan before she lost her restaurant job and fiancé both. But sometimes that’s just the way the cookie crumbles, and soon she finds herself starting from scratch in the island town of Coral Cay, Florida. It has everything she’s looking for: sunny beaches, friendly locals, and a Help Wanted sign in the bakery shop window. Once she convinces the shop’s crusty owner Sam Hepplewhite to hire her, Kate can’t tie on her apron fast enough. Little does she know that trouble, like warm dough, is on the rise.

I liked the friendship between the two main characters. The whole story is pleasant, there's coffee and cookies and murder. I thought it was a decent cozy. I like that there were no obnoxious cops or forced romance.

Story
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

liked the main characters
Reviewed: 11-04-23
This was a satisfying cozy. The main character is smart, independent and not whiny or frivolous. I liked, the subtle build of the love interest. The murder mystery plot was fine. A villain met their just rewards. I'm happy to have found this series and the first two are free at least for now.

I love Ellery Adams and so was happy to find another book by her but this book just didn't grab me at all. Didn't like the characters, the narrator didn't find the story compelling. I guess it was an earlier work she has certainly improved.

The story is pretty basic. everyone is pretty nice, even the ghost she's just a nice old lady who befriends the main character. the narrator is more of a reader than someone who really embodies the characters. maybe later books will be better. I got it included in my membership. I wouldn't really want to spend a credit on it there are so many better cozys to spend a credit on.

First of all I felt the narrator was the perfect voice for the main character. she was light-hearted and delightful. I enjoyed all the characters, the descriptions of the food and the experience of the young ladies finding love in Paris. The two storylines were nice mirrors. I listen to a lot of cozy mysteries and this was just a really happy novel overall.

Awful characters
Reviewed: 01-19-23
The bridezilla in this book is just such an awful person it makes it really hard to listen to because the obliviousness and the self-centeredness makes you just ask the main character like WTF? I listen to these books at 1.3 speed so the cadence and accents or maybe not as annoying to me as they might be to some listeners I've read. Also, some of the character descriptions or just the way she emphasizes a lot of body size gets a little annoying. I'm working my way through these because for right now they are free. All in all I'd say very middle of the road cozy.

I'm the mood for Maine
Reviewed: 10-28-22
I I liked that the lead character is a smart, successful, no nonsense woman. I didn't agree with other reviews that there were too many characters or that the story was confusing. I felt transported to Maine where the people are sturdy and the winters are intense. the mystery was good, I didn't guess. it was a little cool for a cozy but I'll listen to more because it's not hokey.
