Story
H. P. Lovecraft's The Hound, directed by Stuart Gordon, written by Dennis Paoli, with music by Richard Band. The allure of a jade amulet proves troublesome for two aristocratic grave robbers. Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid's award-winning Tales from Beyond the Pale, now entering its sixth year, has produced over 40 audio dramas from a wide array of today's leading genre writers and directors. Season three was produced by Larry Fessenden, Glenn McQuaid, and Jenn Wexler.

Great performances, but...
Reviewed: 12-23-23
The Hound has always been one of my favorite stories by H. P. Lovecraft, though it's typically an unpopular one as his work goes. As for this dramatization, it fell very flat. Your journey in the shadow of the companionate ghouls is disjointed, you don't experience their secret museum with nearly the same lushness, and I don't at all understand the addition of the Eve character-- rather than complimenting the story in any way, she wholly detracted from it. Ultimately, this was a disappointment, and I regret the purchase.

Story
As morbid as it is to fathom, for some, it is easier to be intimate with a corpse than a live human being. People with this sexual preference, or necrophiliacs, have admitted that the absence of emotion or social expectation or the ability to exert absolute control over a corpse has made sexual relations more satisfying. Other necrophiliacs have admitted to many other reasons why they prefer to engage in sexual acts with the dead.

This is a very quick rundown on the subject featuring mostly case study bullet points. Additionally, half of the audio, (which is not the best quality), is advertising.

Wonderful Radio Show, but...
Reviewed: 07-06-22
This was an excellent radio show, offering a window into the past and some genuinely wholesome entertainment, but the sound quality varies wildly between "chapters", making some of them completely unlistenable. I ended up returning the title. 😞

I'm not all that special, really. I'm sure there are a lot of girls with old gypsy blood who see the dead, have killer cults hunting their family, and turn into something that gets scary when they panic. Yep. I'm just an ordinary girl. I wish people would believe that. I've been labeled as one thing or another for most of my life: Death Girl. Crazy Gypsy Girl. Gothic Chick. Monster. It took my mother's death for me to finally start getting answers about what's really been going on. Unfortunately, most of the answers come from men...who aren't just men.

Just Fun
Reviewed: 07-31-20
This isn't a highbrow listen, but it is fun. I caught myself laughing out loud a number of times. I found it very endearing, minimally cliche, and though I admit to some eye rolling, I plan to check out the next book in the series.

This is an excellent companion to Ted Andrew's book, especially if you're new to the subject matter; it is a perfect introduction. He also manages to keep the listener engaged while many other similar readings simply fail in that regard, even when the material is of interest.
I recommend it!

Story
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

I thought the acting was exceptional, but I found myself becoming uncommonly annoyed with the heroine as the story progressed. I also regard the ending as lackluster, but overall it was entertaining.
