Story
A blood feud between two gangs runs the streets red, leaving the city in the grip of chaos. At its heart is 18-year-old Juliette Cai, a former flapper who has returned to assume her role as the proud heir of the Scarlet Gang - a network of criminals far above the law. Their only rivals in power are the White Flowers, who have fought the Scarlets for generations. And behind every move is their heir, Roma Montagov, Juliette's first love and first betrayal. But when gangsters on both sides show signs of instability culminating in clawing their own throats out, the people start to whisper.

Pleasant story

I enjoyed this book. It injects something interesting to Romeo and Juliet without reverting to silliness. The reveals are paced well, as it toys with expectation. I do wish there was a little more variation between character accents by the narrator. Overall a pleasant listen.

Story
Young, pregnant Fawn Bluefield has just fled her family's farm to the city of Glassforge, where she encounters a patrol of the enigmatic soldier-sorcerers known as Lakewalkers. Fawn has heard stories about the Lakewalkers, who are wandering necromancers with no permanent homes and no possessions except the clothes they wear and the mysterious knives they carry. What she does not know is that the Lakewalkers are engaged in a perilous campaign against inhuman and immortal magical entities known as "malices".

Alright but mismatched

The first part was an interesting tale. Action packed: meeting the lake walkers, battling malices. The convincing trauma and recovery gives way to a boring end. Why just talk about things? The pacing is odd.
Also. The romance age gap. Young farmer, battered lakewalker... sounds like it could work. Each learning about love. But the gap is too big to be comfortable. When they reveal the true ages - ew. Spoiled it for me really.
Story did not grip me to read on in the series. Even though the world building and narration was great.

Story
In the medieval kingdom of Goredd, women are expected to be ladies, men are their protectors, and dragons can be whomever they choose. Tess is none of these things. Tess is...different. She speaks out of turn, has wild ideas, and can't seem to keep out of trouble. Then Tess goes too far. Tess's family decide the only path for her is a nunnery. But on the day she is to join the nuns, Tess chooses a different path for herself. She cuts her hair, pulls on her boots, and sets out on a journey. She's not running away, she's running towards something.

Slow plod to maturity.

I am struggling to finish this. The narrator is very entertaining, and enriches the story. But it's such a slow paced story. Maybe it's because this is the first book I've read of the author. I felt I missed the interesting part with the dragons. The adventure is very much an adventure of realisation as opposed to swashbuckling.
I don't feel there's anything they can reveal at the end that is going to be earth shattering. So it's on the maybe listen pile.
