Story
Ancient China collides with newfangled America in this epic tale of opium smugglers, sea pirates, and dueling clipper ships. Brilliantly illuminating one of the least-understood areas of American history, best-selling author Eric Jay Dolin now traces our fraught relationship with China back to its roots: the unforgiving nineteenth-century seas that separated a brash, rising naval power from a battered ancient empire. It is a prescient fable for our time, one that surprisingly continues to shed light on our modern relationship with China.

Marvelous history book! This really proves the “you don’t learn this in school” saying. American colonies were essentially trafficking hard drugs to China basically since the 1700’s. People who freak out over America’s trade with China in this millennium today, apparently don’t know that America has been trading with China for hundreds of years.

Story
As a young man, Randall Woodfield had it all; he was a star athlete with good looks and an award-winning student. Working in the swinging West Coast bar scene, he had more than his share of women. But he wanted more than just sex. An appetite for unspeakable violent acts led him to cruise the I-5 highway through California to Washington, leaving a trail of victims along the way. As the list of the dead grew, the police mobilized to stop a twisted killer who had 44 known deaths to his name.

Ugh…the narrator
Reviewed: 10-20-22
The book is good. I am a fan of Ann Rule. The story is compelling….but the narrator….she sounds like she’s reading a book to children. She acts out a bunch of different- and childish sounding - voices. She sounds like she’s reading a combination of The Three Little Pigs with Little Red Riding Hood with the ridiculous sounding voices she uses. Some folks may like that but I personally do not and it seriously detracts from the overall experience of the book. I wish I had gotten the e-Book to read myself instead of the Audible version.

Story
A new rip-roaring essay collection from the smart, edgy, hilarious, unabashedly raunchy, and best-selling Samantha Irby. Irby is 40, and increasingly uncomfortable in her own skin despite what Inspirational Instagram Infographics have promised her. She has left her job as a receptionist at a veterinary clinic, has published successful books and has been friendzoned by Hollywood, left Chicago, and moved into a house with a garden that requires repairs and know-how with her wife in a Blue town in the middle of a Red state....
