Story
What would it be like to live in a well-rested world? Far too many of us have claimed productivity as the cornerstone of success. Brainwashed by capitalism, we subject our bodies and minds to work at an unrealistic, damaging, and machine‑level pace—feeding into the same engine that enslaved millions into brutal labor for its own relentless benefit. In Rest Is Resistance, Tricia Hersey, aka the Nap Bishop, casts an illuminating light on our troubled relationship with rest and how to imagine and dream our way to a future where rest is exalted.

This book will rock your world

I have described myself as task oriented, productive, and aspirational my entire life. This book helped me question the messages I’ve internalized from my culture and my family - and I’m sharing the message to help my family heal from our constant need to grind/ produce. Give this wonderful book a listen - and let it plant a seed in you to value yourself just for existing. thank you Ms. Hersey, for sharing this book with the world.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, it was a fun story to hear while my hands and eyes were freed up to do other things. It was definitely entertaining.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I love that Kate is a publicist and talks about the publishing industry - that was the most interesting part of the book for me. The least interesting part was Kate's career falling apart - I would have thought she could overcome that with less histrionics. It was a little hard to imagine her taking the steps that she did, but I suppose she had to to advance the plot.
What about Lisa Cordileone’s performance did you like?
I found Lisa Cordileone's reading of the book utterly charming! She had distinct voices for all of the characters, and was consistent throughout the reading (Bravo!) Her British accent for Andrew did make me giggle sometimes, but even with that, she did a fantastic job playing American and English women AND men.
Could you see Shelf Life being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I think it would make a good Lifetime Original moving. I could see Demi Moore or Courtney Cox playing Kate.
Any additional comments?
Kate's friend Grace has been a very oppositional character for Kate - never seems happy with her decisions, but always claims to want Kate to be happy. How can she waffle - just as Kate does - to oppose almost every decision Kate makes, and still claim to be supportive?
