This three-ring Texas circus is more fun than a barrel of rednecks. Oh, wait, it *is* a barrel of rednecks. Redher pokes outrageous fun at the state he loves with a lively cast of characters and a fast-moving plot that twists in unpredictable ways. I spent a year in Austin so I especially enjoyed his culturally-specific imagery. Note: Rehder's hero. John Marlin, is a game warden and the book centers around deer season, told through the eyes of people for whom hunting is a way of life. If this is problematic for you, you might want to give this a miss and try Rehder's Roy Ballard mysteries instead.

Wren is a fabulous, original heroine, and her disabled combat vet beau is no slouch either. Ross successfully combines fun and smarts in this wonderful series. I can’t wait for the next book.

I wish Dan Brown had a better editor

I read Dan Brown because he introduces me to fascinating ideas and places. As a wordsmith he is mediocre. As for plotting, if he were a boxer he’d never make it through the first round because he telegraphs every punch. The devices he uses to create tension are cheap and annoyingly transparent. Shame on his editor for letting him get away with it.

I saw the end much to early. That said, I am fascinated by the architecture in the book and Spain is now on my bucket list. And the narration was excellent.

As a long-time fan, I approached this posthumous work with trepidation. I'm happy to say, had I not known it was completed by Joan Hess, I would have thought it was entirely written by Elizabeth Peters. It fits neatly into the rest of the series. It was nice to fill the gap after Nofroet's marriage to Godwin. My only complaint is that this book could have addressed the underlying tension between Nofroet and Ramses more. The

It's a fun, sexy romp when Warren finds his new roommate's bitchy ways irresistible. Only she isn't having any. Told from Warren's point of view, Hoover shows she knows the inside of the male head and heart.

Seductive is the best word I can use to describe Taylor Stevens writing. Her ability to pull you into an experience that is so far out of the norm is phenomenal.

Hillary Huber's languid style turns every word into an event.

I'll be coming back for more.

I have a hard time believing this is a debut novel, it is so well crafted and entertaining I love how the author turns genre stereotypes on their ear with this wonderful crime-fighting couple. The plotting is very well thought out, and each piece works and is plausible. Watching Death and Wren work out the pieces is the most fun I've had with a book in ages!
