Story
In 1985, Edward Shank famously gunned down the Beacon Hill Butcher, ending the serial killer’s reign of terror over the city of Seattle. But now in his eighties, Edward’s action-packed glory days are long behind him. The decorated former Seattle police chief has given up his high-maintenance Victorian home to his grandson Matt for a quiet life at the nearby Sweetbay Village Retirement Residence, where mac-n-cheese Wednesdays have become the highlight of his week.

Not what I expected

While I really enjoyed the book I was a little disappointed it didn’t follow the storyline of the first two books like I was expecting. But it was still good

High up on the windswept cliffs of Pale Peak, Faye and Felix celebrate their new engagement. But soon, a chorus of ghastly noises erupts from the nearby woods: the screams of animals, the cries of children, and the mad babble of a hundred mournful voices. A dark figure looms near the windows in the dead of night, whispering to Faye. As the weather turns deadly, Felix discovers that his terrified fiancée isn't just mumbling in her sleep—she's whispering back.

Glad it was free

The narration was just terrible. It just sounded like he was trying to come off as cool, like I was being read to by Johnny Bravo or Bruce Campbell. Too many dramatic pauses and off putting inflections. Made the whole book seem sarcastic and I have no idea if it’s a good story or not because of it.

Now she finds the whispers and the cold breath of the dead a comfort. I like the books but this one was too much in the “romance” department. Way more vulgar and crude than the others but maybe I’m just a prude.
