An important subject poorly presented.
Reviewed: 08-05-21
An important subject, but the book suffers from being too repetitive an spends too much time on very basic and self-explanatory concepts.
The most disappointing thing is the narrator: I had to check whether I had downloaded a text-to-speech version of the book or one with a real human narrator. The performance is poor because of the unnatural pace, missing intonation and pauses, all of which makes the narrator sound mechanistic. You can increase the reading speed to at least 1.30 times to bring the pace up to a more natural pace, but the rest remains a tough ride to endure.

After reading this book, it becomes obvious that the medical establishment is faced with a huge challenge requiring new approaches to healing and treatment - even if only half of the results described in this book are true.
Any system that rests on its laurels for too long becomes reactive, slow, inert and loses innovation potential, so it is good to have people like Wim who can stir things up with new insights, that are even backed by science. Hopefully, the "traditional" scientific community will start recognising the ancient wisdom, which is too often discredited as unscientific mumbo-jumbo.
My props to Wim for his humble and self-effacing approach. He resists the temptation of putting himself on a pedestal as a "guru" or the like, and that gives his words more credibility and impact.
The narrator does a fine job conveying the intensity that is almost palpable in Wim's text.

Story
It Worked for Me is filled with vivid experiences and lessons learned that have shaped the legendary career of the four-star general and former Secretary of State Colin Powell. At its heart are Powell's "Thirteen Rules" - such as "Get mad, then get over it" and "Share credit" - that introduce his principles for effective leadership: conviction, hard work, and, above all, respect for others. A natural storyteller, Powell offers warm and engaging parables with wise advice on succeeding in the workplace and beyond.

This is an inspiring personal account about succeeding with what might seem impossible or unrealistic at the beginning. Through many good examples from his personal and professional life, Colin Powell shows that hard work and unselfish dedication to the task at hand are some of the key foundations of greatness. For those particularly interested in leadership, there are plenty of takeaways about how to act as a leader and how to manage staff to keep organizations progressive, dynamic and adaptable to demands in the surrounding environment.
The relativity short chapters are perfect to stand alone as individual and easy-to-remember subcomponents of the bigger whole - a bit like Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations".
The audio performance is as successful as the book itself. Powell reads with a nice vivid pace and a pleasant voice. Both versions of this book are highly recommended.

This book was an exceptionally pleasant account of extreme sports performances written and narrated in an way that would otherwise have been extremely boring. Even if you're not exactly a running aficionado, you will be drawn into impressive details and insights about how far man can push physical limits, and the book perfectly delivers on its mission to explain how mind and body are connected and interact - especially under extreme conditions.
The Audible narration was enjoyable too. The narrator immerses himself into the text and has an authentic and enthusiastic voice with perfect use and variation of speed, punctuation and pauses.
All in all, a very nice experience. Good luck.

The guru to the gurus at last shares his knowledge with the rest of us. Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman's seminal studies in behavioral psychology, behavioral economics, and happiness studies have influenced numerous other authors, including Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell. In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman at last offers his own, first book for the general public. It is a lucid and enlightening summary of his life's work. It will change the way you think about thinking. Two systems drive the way we think and make choices, Kahneman explains....

Tip of hat to the narrator for an excellent performance. I enjoyed listening to this audio book. Still, I believe it would have been a better experience reading instead of listening to the book because of all the tables, images and graphics referred to.
I appreciated the insights into how psychology, gut feelings, economics and social norms influence our decisions to a much higher degree than most of us realize.
I recommend this book to anyone interested in economics, management and behavioural psychology. Enjoy!

I enjoyed this book because it reminded me of something basic, yet important and positive, which is: act well and treat people well to make the world a better place.
The authors' testimonials and experience confirm a very optimistic message that perfectly encapsulates the greatest achievements in philosophy, religion and even game theory, namely that everyone wins if we behave well towards one another. Condensed even further, you could say that this book is basically about The Golden Rule combined with presidential etiquette.
The narration is good and fluent and leaves you with the impression of listening to a friend, rather than a disinterested narrator.
Enjoy and get inspired.

In this incandescent novel, V.S. Naipaul takes us deeply into the life of one man, an Indian who, uprooted by the bloody tides of Third World history, has come to live in an isolated town at the bend of a great river in a newly independent African nation. Naipaul gives us the most convincing and disturbing vision yet of what happens in a place caught between the dangerously alluring modern world and its own tenacious past and traditions.

A crash course in postcolonial Africa.
Reviewed: 04-24-16
This is a nice novel, which describes the dynamics that most African countries went through in the years around their independence from the previous colonisers.
Naispul brilliantly describes the delicate relationships between the various African ethnic groups and nationalities, those people's interactions with expatriates and among the expatriates themselves. He describes a country (likely to be contemporary DR Congo) in moral, institutional and cultural decay and confusion resulting from the sudden changes that the country has to go through.
It is an honest and realistic portrait of postcolonial Africa written in an rich, sometimes poetic, language that leaves one with the feeling of actually being there in person.
Simon Vance delivers a nice performance that catches very well the spirit and the tone of the book.
