Story
Only days after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt tapped Chester W. Nimitz to assume command of the Pacific Fleet. Nimitz transformed the devastated and dispirited Pacific fleet into the most powerful and commanding naval force in history. Facing demands from Washington to mount an early offensive, he had first to revive the depressed morale of the thousands of sailors, soldiers, and Marines who served under him. And of course, he also confronted a formidable and implacable enemy in the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Story
No espionage missions have been kept more secret than those involving American submarines. Now, Blind Man's Bluff shows for the first time how the navy sent submarines wired with self-destruct charges into the heart of Soviet seas to tap crucial underwater telephone cables. It unveils how the navy's own negligence might have been responsible for the loss of the USS Scorpion, a submarine that disappeared, all hands lost, 30 years ago.

I couldn’t get past the first 8 chapters, this book was terrible. After listening to tales of countless American mistakes, I’d had enough. You would have to guess that we lost the war after listening to this. Every single thing is about what we did wrong, every battle fought was a needless mistake, and our Commanders were all fools. Sorriest book I ever didn’t listen to until the end.

Story
Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower, General George S. Patton, and General Omar N. Bradley engineered the Allied conquest that shattered Hitler’s hold over Europe. But they also shared an intricate web of relationships going back decades. In the cauldron of World War II, they found their prewar friendships complicated by shifting allegiances, jealousy, insecurity, patriotism, and ambition.

This is a remarkable book, so well written and composed together. I will always treasure this, as it taught me so much. It was always very easy to love General Patton for how he fought. Now I love him even more because of the brilliant way he saw politics. For the dirty games it involves, and the bs the man had to endure. His political views are completely in agreement with how I feel, and how I now see have ruined this once great Country.
I never knew Bradley had hated Patton so badly until I listened to this book. I was happy that his views of him lightened after his work in the ETO. Bradley was indeed a fine man.
Eisenhower remained a great mind for holding the alliance with the US and the UK. Even though he should have canned Monty for Alexander. I believe his German heritage led him to be more harsh with the Germans after defeating them. In this case, thank god above for General George C Marshall. A brilliant book in every way…

The extraordinary career of George Catlett Marshall - America’s most distinguished soldier - statesman since George Washington - whose selfless leadership and moral character influenced the course of two world wars and helped define the American century. Set against the backdrop of five major conflicts - two world wars, Palestine, Korea, and the Cold War - Marshall's education in military, diplomatic, and political power, replete with their nuances and ambiguities, runs parallel with America's emergence as a global superpower.

In a lifetime shaped by politics, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proved himself a master manipulator of Congress, the press, and the public. But when war in Europe and Asia threatened America's shores, FDR found himself in a world turned upside down, where his friends became his foes, his enemies his allies. To help wage democracy's first "total war", he turned to one of history's most remarkable triumvirates.

It irritated me to listen about who married who, where they went to college, and calling them The Best Of American Families. I think 90+% of American Families during WW2 were The Best of American Families. But after the society part and who they went to parties with, it turned out good. The WW2 part was very interesting and I think you’ll like it.

Story
On September 17, 1944, General Kurt Student, the founder of Nazi Germany's parachute forces, heard the groaning roar of airplane engines. He went out onto his balcony above the flat landscape of southern Holland to watch the air armada of Dakotas and gliders, carrying the legendary American 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions and the British 1st Airborne Division. Operation Market Garden, the plan to end the war by capturing the bridges leading to the Lower Rhine and beyond, was a bold concept, but could it have ever worked? The cost of failure was horrendous, above all for the Dutch.

Story
A Bridge Too Far is Cornelius Ryan’s masterly chronicle of the Battle of Arnhem, which marshaled the greatest armada of troop-carrying aircraft ever assembled and cost the Allies nearly twice as many casualties as D-day. In this compelling work of history, Ryan narrates the Allied effort to end the war in Europe in 1944 by dropping the combined airborne forces of the American and British armies behind German lines to capture the crucial bridge across the Rhine at Arnhem. Focusing on a vast cast of characters, Ryan brings to life one of the most ill-fated operations of the war.

I’m sure General Brownings family didn’t appreciate the movie and taking Montgomery’s faulty plan as his own. After spending a few days on the battlefield, it didn’t take long to see how flawed a 8 mile away drop zone really was. Go there if you can, it’s awesome.
