Story
Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war - and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army. Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built.

Another great story
Reviewed: 03-24-19
Really has it all; great story and great narration. Loved the different POVs from all the characters and seeing glimpses of old friends from past stories.
A smarter person than me would wait until the full series is released so I don’t have to wait for the next one, but as you might be able to guess patience is not my strongest virtue.
Seriously if you are reading this you probably already know and love these stories. If you are new to the Grisha, then stop reading this and dive in (but I would suggest starting with the earlier series)

Story
Everything I know is a lie. I'm an ordinary mortal girl. Lord Irrik is a depraved dragon shifter. King Irdelron is an immortal tyrant. In the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the established rings of our kingdom. Everyone has a role. Me? I'll be uselessly serving potato stew for the rest of my life because I can't make anything grow. But starvation brews rebellion. When the king strikes, I'm captured by Lord Irrik. Instantly, I'm embroiled in a deadly game. One where I'm desperate to understand the rules.

Horrible Narration
Reviewed: 01-08-19
I’ve read the the series and loved it. I couldn’t stand the audio version. The narrator made Ryn sound like she was talking while traveling on a bumpy road. So much voice quavering. No really the quavering never stopped. Well unless Irrick was speaking, then things got worse.
Irrick’s voice sounded like a stereotype of a hated teacher; nasally, prim, and clipped. (He’s a dragon for goodness sake...how could you read his voice like that!)
I hung in there because of the story and kept hoping the narrator would settle in and capture the essence of the characters, but alas, that was not to be.
If you haven’t read the books, please don’t start with the audio version. It’s a really good story don’t allow this version to ruin it for you.
