Story
Earth has attained world peace at last. Overseen by the World Council, based in Jerusalem, the planet has truly become a global community, and humanity has reached an age of enlightenment. This is the time when the visitors arrive. Wielding near-miraculous technology, they arrive claiming to have seeded Earth with humans, and have returned to claim "their own." Their claims and their appearance seem prophesied by the Bible, and religion and politics clash as arguments break out about whether these visitors have the right to take people.

Thought provoking story.

Intriguing storyline. Would have much preferred a male narrator, since 80% of the cast is male. Would also have enjoyed one that could do accents effectively. Certain that the book is better than the Audible version.

Ugh! Don’t fall for the hype.

What would have made The Great Alone better?
It only needed likeable, or relatable characters, better plot pacing, and some joy.
Has The Great Alone turned you off from other books in this genre?
Absolutely. This was a slow, long, melodramatic slog with woefully inadequate redemption at close. If you like peeling your own skin off, this might be the book for you.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Not sure any narrator could have saved this, but the impression of the child MJ was hard to listen to.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Great Alone?
I would have cut at least half of the extraneous descriptive verbiage that slowed the pace of the limited plot.
Any additional comments?
Stay away, especially if you are male. I found it difficult to relate to anyone, and frequently smirked or rolled my eyes at the never ending string of bad decisions, or lack of action, taken by the main characters. This is the first review I’ve ever written, but felt compelled to warn others.

Story
Another of Mark Twain's best-selling yarns of skullduggery and mischief. Set in the deep South, Pudd'nhead Wilson is the central character as an attorney who solves a murder mystery and lays bare the wicked deeds of a larger-than-life ensemble of personalities in his own wry and peculiar way.

Terrible overacting by the narrators
Reviewed: 05-24-16
I love Twain, but I could not get through a full chapter of this. The narrators were very hard to follow as they thought they were channeling Scout Finch, except for the overacting. I was not allowed to visualize the story in my mind, as it took all my effort just to understand what was being read.
The book may be terrific, but I won't know now.
