Three wasted hours in my life
Revisado: 10-09-22
It amazes me “Verity” is on the NYT best seller list. It is a wonder it got published at all. It is soft porn hidden in a cliche mystery with two demential characters . I only got thru half of the book since I wanted to see if it got any better. It did not. Good thing it was free or else I would return it.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Revisado: 11-30-21
I can’t understand the ratings for this long meaningless book . It must be a YA book for people who don’t know anything about WW2 or Nazis . Half way thru and cannot finish .

A positive future world
Revisado: 10-19-21
One of the best SF books ever written . As fresh today as it was fifty years ago. I still remember that last scene in the film as the baby emerged on the screen as the music sounded in the background. That scene in the book is equally dramatic .If only it was true.

Long boring book
Revisado: 08-18-21
I tried to like this book but the story was unrealistic ( even for King) of a hit man setting up shop in a suburban neighborhood.and the story within the story was even worse, of the hit man writing a very poor biography of himself.I guess it got better at the end like most King books but getting there was like starting a 2000 mile trip in stalled , bumper to bumper traffic . So many good books available to listen to and so little time left to read them. This aimless book was not one of them.

Historia
The true story of what took place in Donald Trump’s White House during a disastrous 2020 has never before been told in full. What was really going on around the president, as the government failed to contain the coronavirus and over half a million Americans perished? Who was influencing Trump after he refused to concede an election he had clearly lost and spread lies about election fraud? To answer these questions, Phil Rucker and Carol Leonnig reveal a dysfunctional and bumbling presidency’s inner workings in unprecedented, stunning detail.

Should be a movie
Revisado: 07-25-21
This is written like a political thriller but it is all true. The book is an outstanding summary of Trumps last year and the people , good and bad, who played a role in the drama. The chapter on the insurrection is some of the best non fiction writing I have read and listened . The performance by January Lavoy only adds to the drama. Read this book.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

A masterpiece on so many levels
Revisado: 05-26-21
I read this this book in 2013 when it first came out. Back then it was a powerful experience. Much in our country has changed since then especially with race relations . I listened to this novel again just now and have gained so much more insight into what Grisham was telling us eight years ago. Every American should read this heartfelt yet terrifying book. A true masterpiece of historical fiction. I would give it ten stars if I could.
